Dow Jones owner Bankcroft: Murdoch will destroy Wall Street Journal's Independence
From Reuters via Yahoo Finance:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070524/bs_nm/dowjones_newscorp_bancrofts_dc

Key members of the Bankcroft family, whose Wall Street Journal editorial page is perhaps the most influential Corporate/Republican/Conservative mouthpiece in the world, opposes the takeover of Dow Jones by the disgraced Rupert Murdoch. Regular readers of the Wall Street Journal know that while it is undeniably a mainstream media organ, the journalists there are fair-minded and relatively independent. OK, it's not Mother Jones, but then only Mother Jones is Mother Jones, right?

The Journal does not blink at stories that are embarassing to Republicans or social conservatives, nor do its news columns shy away from coverage that directly contradicts the Republican party line on Iraq, the environment, health care or other issues on which conservatives regulary bury or obfuscate. Rupert Murdoch would destroy the integrity of Dow Jones, turning this vital source of information into just another Faux News Repukelican Sewer Pipe of Crap.

Dow Jones' journalists and unions are supporting the leading members of the Bankcroft family, who are dead set against Murdoch's takeover at any price.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A key member of the family that controls Dow Jones & Co. (NYSE:DJ) opposes a $5 billion bid by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. (NYSE:NWSA), fearing the sale would endanger the Wall Street Journal's independence, the paper reported on its Web site on Thursday.

"I'm open to any situation that benefits The Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones and its shareholders. At the moment, I don't see anything (involving Murdoch's bid) that would do that," the Journal quoted Christopher Bancroft as saying.

2. Not to worry. I am sure he would keep the editorial page intact.

9. No sarcasm. The DJ editorial page is rabid RW. Maybe a tad better than Mann Coulter but not much.

6. The WSJ usually echos the GOP mantra anyway....
I can't see how Murdoch could make it much worse.

Well, OK. I guess he COULD make it worse but it's bad enough already is my point.

7. The WSJ is one of the most liberal publications out there minus the editorial page
When it comes down to business decisions, people want accurate information over feel good bias.

8. I must get a different edition then....
from what I've read they support Bush's tax cuts and most, if not all, of his "economic stimulus" programs. True, in some respects they are impartial about social programs, but when it comes to anything financial they're GOP all the way. "Accurate information" for the rich doesn't make them socially responsible.
