Pink Shirts Banned at High School For Anti-Bullying Measure
Pink shirts have been banned at Whitman Hanson Regional—a decision that has broken a long held tradition at the high school.
New principal Jeffrey Szymaniak has banned students from wearing the color at the pep rally prior to the big football game against Abington Thanksgiving day because he wears the color will lead to teasing.
In years past, seniors wore black, juniors wore read, sophomores wore white and freshmen wrote pink.
Szymaniak has asked the students to wear school colors instead and stated that it was his responsibility to create an environment where kids could feel safe. The banning is one of several new policies the school is implementing after an anti-bullying legislation passed in May over the suicide of Phoebe Prince last winter.
