James Carville stands by Obama Comment

By PATRICK GAVIN | 11/19/10 6:42 AM EST Updated: 11/19/10 9:19 AM EST

After James Carville said Thursday that "If Hillary gave up one of her balls and gave it to Obama, he'd have two," the Democratic strategist is sticking by the harsh assessment. (Carville was discussing Obama's stances on taxes and the military's Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy. You can watch video of Carville's comments here.

"If I offended anybody, I am not sorry and I do not apologize," Carville told CNN's John King on Thursday, although he said the comment was meant as a joke.

"Of all the things people say about the president, I think this is fairly mild," said Carville. "I repeated a joke I made in the campaign."

... if we only had a dozen more like Carville (and Grayson) and placed them all as co-chairpersons of the DNC, maybe, just maybe there - might - be hope for this "progressive" Presidency, the Democratic party, and our country.

4. Carville is not a progressive--but suddenly he's an HONORARY progressive
and gets cheers because he's emasculating our President. Fuck you, Serpenthead.

6. Obama is fighting - and winning. It's who he is fight FOR that's the problem.
I don't see a lack of testicular fortitude. I see RW policy after RW policy.

23. Indeed, our "progressive" President....
.... obviously sees his mission and purpose as that of Switzerland, in the fight against abject evil, as opposed to that of a Roosevelt or Churchill.

Conciliation. Appeasement. Striking the "middle" ground before he even gets on the bus to the battle field.

Tragic and disgusting.

29. Yes, and so do I ....
Edited on Sat Nov-20-10 07:45 AM by TeaBagsAreForCups
... Carville was quite the hero here for many years and trusted as a truly aggressive advocate for progressive matters. No one will ever go wrong, or lose any money, in betting on the highly fickle and erratic nature of a political discussion board that defies logic.

Moreover, I heartily chuckle at the challenge that he remains trusted now only by the PUMA "crowd." Uhhhh. No. Not only was I very opposed to HC (a position I sincerely regret in hindsight vis-a-vis our "progressive" President), but I was a very early advocate - in money, time, and vociferous support - of Obama some two years prior to the morning of January 20, 2009.

How wrong could I have been?

9. Talking about the President and SOD's 'balls' is rather tasteless.
He could have put it another way, really. He really doesn't have room to talk, being that the President he supported and worked for at times was the one who put DADT into effect.

10. As tasteless as his original comment may have been, Carville's using the correct tactic now.

I'm sorry, but I'm fed up with the ritual-humiliation game played by the media these days.

So, say you say something offensive. Let's say that as in this case, you say something genuinely offensive and stupid.

The howler monkeys are screeching loudly on FAUX News and demanding you submit to their ritual humiliation by apologizing on TV.

WRONG RESPONSE: Apologize, say you said something offensive, retract your statement, clarify. The howler monkeys will feast upon your corpse. We've seen it over and over again.

CORRECT RESPONSE: Refuse to play ritual-humiliation altogether and flip the fuckers the bird. You meant to offend the sons-of-bitches when you made the wisecrack the first time, so why should you change now? It won't shut the howler monkeys up, but neither will apologizing, so you might as well show the world that you've got a pair.

12. I'm not sure people are getting this. It's not the crudeness, bluntness, or offensiveness
of the statement. It's the completely unhelpful and damaging attack on the President's masculinity--I guess both Carville and Moore are hoping the meme sticks that Obama is a nutless girlie man, and even women are more masculine. I seriously can't picture them attacking the manhood of a white male President, especially not one in their own party. I do see racial overtones in the constant suggestion that Obama is not quite a man.
