1. Some people have been posting about it - rave reviews, natch.
Don't know if it's really because it's that good, or if it's because we're just glad this may be getting some REAL attention.

Someone asked the filmmaker how much license he took. He said it was based on the transcripts from the trial. Facts. Not Valerie's book, not he said, she said, so this will be more accurate and true to the real story than many "based on" films are.

I'm looking forward to seeing it, too!

Give us your report after you see it! :hi:

2. i saw the trailer a couple weeks ago before it opened
and when i saw sean penn was playing joe wilson i was very amused--thought he probably loved playing this role and being a part of this movie--much the same way most of us would have i suppose.

3. The trailer looked great - but I used to work for all the major studios testing
footage for trailers and the scenes that scored the highest always made it into the trailers and ads. Those scenes were often the best parts of the movie!

BUT, I'm guessing it'll be a jaw dropper.

I was looking at pics of Valerie and Joe the other day on Google, and man, does Penn have the look down! You could put them next to each other and swear they were brothers!

6. No trailer could do this movie justice
I was riveted to the screen from beginning to end, while the trailer may use some great scenes those scenes can not possibly carry the same impact when they are split into little pieces.

9. Excellent! I hope it gets a HUGE audience and many accolades. It's in time for
the Academy Awards, right?

I read on some blog where people were going "nobody's going to watch this, this is old news". I think the majority of Americans probably aren't even AWARE of this, just heard the name "Scooter Libby" on the evening news but didn't pay attention. I think if I wasn't familiar with the story, the trailers would make me want to go see it anyway, just for the CIA/intrigue bits it hints at. I'm counting on my fellow, maybe clueless, Americans to react the same. Look at how much so many learned from Charlie Wilson's War (including me!).

Did you get a sense of how the audience reacted?

10. Yes, I would expect this will get some big award nominations...
Naomi Watts has an excellent chance of winning an Oscar for this, and I could see Sean Penn receiving a nomination as well as nominations for best picture and best screenplay as well.

For those who say this is "old news" they don't know what they are missing out on. I can not say that I learned anything from the movie that I did not already know, but the way it was presented was so intriguing that it hit me far harder than any news report I ever saw on the case did. This is a powerful movie and it doesn't matter if you know the story or not, it will have a big impact on you either way because even if you know what happens seeing it portrayed on screen in this manner is far more hard hitting than watching a bunch of talking heads drone on about it on the evening news. The movie goes far deeper than just telling what happened to Plame, the way it deals with the Iraq War in general and ties the lies about Weapons of Mass Destruction to the outing of Plame was very well done.

As far as audience reaction goes it was difficult to tell what everyone was thinking, but the theater was packed and I definitely heard at least one comment on the way out that "anyone who voted Republican should be forced to watch this movie twice". Most people in the crowd were just silent through the whole film, but I did not see a single person get up to use the bathroom or check their watch through the whole movie so as far as I could tell it held the audiences interest very well.

19. i saw the movie tonight
thought it was very good--i cried at the end... just because nothing has ever been done about this and probably never will be--no one is being held responsible for this.

here's what i wished had been in the movie
i wished they had spelled it out for audiences that we were lied into this war; i mean, actually came out and said "lied into this war" and i didn't hear that.

and rove's part was too vague

i wanted to see who put those 16 words back into fuckhead's speech--i wanted more stress as to why they were distracting the public -- i wanted cheney exposed and he wasn't. (remember the article he wrote some notes in the margins--i wanted to see that)

it was great defining valerie and how important she was (blows the bullshit lie of her being a "desk jockey" out of the water that's for sure) but i wanted it to show more of the evil behind what happened (cheney & rove).

sean penn was great--it was a great, fascinating movie--but for people who didn't follow the story or obsess with it or those who thought she was a "glorified secretary" they might just come away thinking: well, i guess she really was more than a secretary. i wanted more of the treachery of the bush cabal spelled out for those who didn't get it to begin with.

4. Saw it last night, it was excellent
It is by far the best film on the Iraq War that I have seen, absolutely brilliant performances and a great script. What I liked most about the movie is that while it focused on the outing of Valerie Plame it never forgot the bigger story. It made it clear that while the Plame outing was incredibly destructive, it served as a distraction to an even bigger crime. The film made the point that people understood that Plame was outed but they did not understand why she was outed, and by committing a serious crime the Bush Administration was able to distract people from the even bigger crime of manipulating intelligence data in order to start a war.

5. It's not playing within 100 miles of my home. Oh, wait.. I take that back...
Edited on Sun Nov-21-10 09:35 AM by Ian David
... they expanded it to new theaters on the 19th, and now it is showing in a "Cinema de-luxe" only, where you get food and a full bar during the movie.

16. Yeah, it's in our art movie theatre in New Haven but parking is a hassle.
I wish the big chains would show it...they're so easily accessible and have lots of parking, but they shovel nothing but sh*t at the two in the area...

7. The film is excellent! I needed a blood pressure pill when it was over, I was so angry!
Why Rove & Co. are not behind bars is the zenith of justice atrophy!

12. Hopefully Holder and Obama and some other honchos will see it - as
Bjorn Against said, even knowing the story, how they presented it brought it to life and was impactful.

I want to see it, but I know that it will just raise my BP and piss me off all over again. Not sure I need any more stress in my life.

13. Understood - but give the movie your money, Hollywood needs to
know that we want more truthful movies and if they're money-makers, they'll provide them. Consider it your patriotic duty. :7 :patriot:

14. I saw it Friday. Well worth watching.
What our government did to the Wilsons was nothing short of treason. Outing a US spy, who was working on nuclear non-proliferation, during a time when we were fighting a battle against a country accused of having such weapons, endangered our national security.

Yet no one was held to account.

Why hasn't the investigation into this been re-opened in light of the recovered emails that weren't made available to Fitzgerald?

18. I saw the movie today. I thought it was great.
If I had to say one thing, and it's probably only because I read DU, is that it could have had a deeper back story.

But all in all, the movie was truthful and will be an eye opener for many. Penn did a great job and the woman who played Valerie was very convincing.

Another thing I also noticed, is that the audience was an older audience, I'm in my early forties and I would I was the youngest viewer by far.
