Afghanistan - Troubling Poll Results |
|
Edited on Mon Nov-22-10 05:00 PM by Steely_Dan
I heard on one of the major networks last night that something like 92% of all Afghans do not know why we are in their country. They have no understanding or knowledge of 9/11 or know that this was the reason why we came there. Further, many believe that we are their to take over their country (not unlike the Russians). In fact, there is a certain percentage that think we are merely an extension of the Russian invasion.
Here's the point...
If this is true, we are in the exact same situation that the Russians were in years ago and I fear that there can be NO resolution. If the perception of us is no different than that of the Russians, we are in deep trouble. Isn't this enough to indicate that we need to get out and get out now?

on edit: There were some other troubling poll numbers that IU can't recall right now. Perhaps someone else saw the same news and can recall them...

6. IMO I bet a lot of Afghanistans do think we're there as agressors. And how can we |
|
build that into a stable country and US-friendly without a huge presence there for a long time basically rebuilding their infrastructure, jobs for them, etc., etc. I heard similar to what you were discussing in your OP.

8. The article the other day said 'they don't know they preciptiated the conflict' - |
|
which is a flat out lie, because they DIDN'T precipitate the conflict. It was started by a very small group of international criminals who did not tell the government what they were about to do. This should never have been a war against the Afghan government, much less its people.
