So if people are going to start shopping at 3AM on Friday...
Why don't we just forget about the freakin' turkey and dive right into the stores on thursday because this is what we have become...

Have a Turkey Roll with a jar of gravy on Wednesday Night and then have at it...

We consume, that is all, our whole economy is based on consuming while our infrastructure, our water line, the Natural Gas line, the roads, the bridges everything is set aside so that we can consume...

Heaven forbid we should actually make something in this country.

That's so last century.

the Companies wont do anything without tax credits and give aways that impact the over all safety of our society.

What have we to be thankful for as a nation right now.

Personally, I have a lot to be thankful of and for.

But truly, I am not all that thankful for much on the national level.

Sure there was the Health Care reform but that was last year, this year we get watered down financial reform that just makes the finance system even more stacked against us.

I am thankful for president Obama because if he had lost it would have been a whole lot worse for those of us not in the upper tax brackets.

I am thankful that Sherrod Brown is still my senator.

After that, not much...

1. It gets stupider.
Today's ad in the paper announces that our local FRED's store will open Friday at 5 am.

FRED's makes the Dollar Store look like Macy's.
It is the type of place that buys old groceries the real stores are trying to get rid of.
A small store and very cramped.
Very few customers on any given day.

And our town only has 6,000 people.

But the store will open at 5 am for the apparently anticipated crowds.

2. I saw a picture of people with tents camping out to be first in line to shop.
How sick is that? (Wish Sherrod Brown was my senator. Instead, I've got Republican-lite Shaheen and teabagger Ayotte.)

4. Well, all those damn idiots can be shopping at 5AM or whenever...
It's crazyness...

And not in the holiday spirit, as far as I'm concerned.

I have many things I'm personally grateful for: my family and dear friends, my health, my life...and DU.

I'm truly grateful for our Dem leadership here in California. I have real hope that things will get better here.

Have a great Thanksgiving, Chris...

I hope we all do...we deserve it.

5. I will start at 4:00 AM.
Honestly, it's more for sociological amusement than anything else. For the first time, I went out last Black Friday. I think I spend maybe $200 - there actually were some good bargains. There was no way I was going to stand in any crazy lines, however.

I don't especially care about Thanksgiving, but I care for my friends and loved ones and I appreciate them very much!

19. Friday sales
I'm a sociology student, so I love observing people. I haven't been shopping on the Friday after Thanksgiving in a few years, but I might this year. I usually get there at the wee hours and walk around the store for less than an hour. I'm leaving as most of the crowd is entering the store.

6. People go shopping on Buy Nothing Day?
Don't they know what this Friday means to the non-consumer community? Is nothing sacred in this country?

That being, support your local small busineses. Skip the big box stores.

16. It's due to the fact that there are limited quantities for the products
that have the deep discounts.

If I was in the market for something like a laptop and could save $300 by camping out pretty early, I'd probably do so. If somebody thinks that makes me a mindless sheeple or whatever, they can go fuck themselves.

11. Don't need to, gotta work that day, anyway.
Bought almost all my gifts from a Green Bay game retailer at an anime/gaming convention in Stevens Point this last weekend, bought one item about two weeks ago, and I have two relative who have requested cash or gift cards. I'll just get the other present Next Friday.

Although, tomorrow's gonna be one SLOW day at the library... :boring: :boring: :boring: :boring: :boring:

12. Some of us gave up the Holidays years ago
I've never gone shopping the day after Thanksgiving. 17 years ago I decided I wasn't going to be a consumer anymore. I gave up all the Holidays and all birthdays. I don't celebrate any holiday, ever. It's really nice and not that hard to do. You just tell everyone you don't do it anymore. Tell you family that you won't be doing any enforced family affairs like Thanksgiving or Christmas. They may be shocked up if you stick to your guns some of them might agree with you since they've hating doing it for years too.

13. When I was younger, before all the Black Friday crap...
I would get together with one of my old pals from Junior High on the friday after Thanksgiving.

We would stoke some major dub age and just walk through the crowds laughing our asses off and then go and have a few cocktails at one of the bars in which ever mall we happen to be in...

It was a tradition that we kept up until the late 80's...

It's not so fun when you aren't wrecked out of your mind and just having a gas...

28. Sad....
My extended family loves the holidays.
We use the time to catch up, play games together, cook - do things without having to worry about work or being somewhere else.
Sure, not everyone gets along all the time, but that happens whether there are holidays or not.
We've had about 25 people here this week (three different houses) and are looking forward to more tomorrow. About 12 of us are going out shopping Friday - can't wait!

21. I'm thankful
All those people paying 8% taxes on all the crap they buy will put some money away to pay for a boatload of medicaid paid for pills and at least one boat for a Medicare paid Doctor. Not only that millions of people who desperately need the work will be working.

Black Friday: The Great American Economy requires it.

have now very successfully bound Thanx and Christmas season together!!

Actually, we don't really celebrate "xmas" -- we're Winter Solstice celebrators--!!

However, my favorite local department store has sent out cash coupons -- $20 --

which you use to purchase any item in the store -- sale or otherwise -- from

5am to 1pm on Friday!!

Needless to say, I will go and use it -- but that will be all!

I always have to work on black Friday. I don't even know what all the hoopla is about. No sense perusing the ads when I can't go anyway.
