Clinton talks to China, others about WikiLeak

By MATTHEW LEE, Associated Press

WASHINGTON – Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has reached out to several countries about the expected release of classified State Department cables by the WikiLeaks website.

Clinton reached out to leaders in Germany, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Britain, France and Afghanistan, spokesman P.J. Crowley said in a tweet Friday evening.

Separately, Crowley confirmed that Clinton spoke Friday by phone with Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi about the release.

He said U.S. diplomats were warning foreign governments about what the documents may contain. The cables are thought to include candid assessments of foreign leaders and governments and could erode trust in the U.S. as a diplomatic partner.

Maybe now we'll find out exactly who the morons are, and exactly how and what they fucked up. How they fucked *us* over, as well as the rest of the world.

We'll find out exactly how criminal and thuggish a bully we are around the world. Or rather, how criminal and thuggish our government is...using our money.

and you sound credible. Fred Phelps plays with morality, he is a fucking moron. Diplomats require secrecy to conduct business. So who benefits from this dump?

30. Who benefits? The entire planet.
I cant believe that this is even being asked?

Who benefits from US war crimes, bullying, and other empire sustaining tactics?
How about we ask it this way-

Who is benefiting from the course of US policy now? How much of the US or world population agrees with what the US leadership is doing abroad? How do you feel your government has represented you over the last 30 years?

The next question is this- how could this leak possibly make the position of the US leadership worse? I cant. Our leaders are, and have been, war criminals and social pariah's for years. The policies that our leaders pursue, are designed to be harmful to the population, of which I claim membership. So, I think that exposing the rot is exactly what should be done.

Luckily, I happen to have one small faction on my side- we call ourselves "the majority of the US population".

boy that is a world shattering revelation.

The majority would see manning shot in the head and assange and crew killed outright. The smarter people would see the flaws in that approach.

33. No. But that is a risk when you play in the space he is in.
he is an intelligence agency without a state. Killing him is useless, it would require the coordinated killing of everyone participating in his agency. Recursion would be required.

That is a bit much for us these days, Russia, Israel, or someone operating with tacit approval would be a reasonable response to a compromise of their channels.

Sorry, those are the breaks.

34. I'm sure he gets this.
The question I have is whether or not you rooted for this. Your posts on the topic suggest you do indeed like the idea of him getting killed by some country or other. Am I wrong? And if so, how do you account for some of your own words on the topic regarding Assange's well being? I mean, color me revolutionary, but when you say "Sorry, those are the breaks" I don't think you're really sorry at all. So, am I right or wrong? Would his death over this stuff bother you, or would you see it as a plus?

38. "largest document dump ever" is hardly cables to a British PM.
Either you are intentionally and selectively pulling out "1" possible document to avoid the fact that this is supposed to be a MASSIVE release, or you have not bother to actually read any of what Wikileaks has said so far.

Which is it?

40. It's likely to be unsettling, but
it will mostly lack context, especially lacking is how selective the information will be. Information targeted to a specific incident would be one thing, something that can be isolated and given context, but no one seems to know the target, the purpose, the context or anything.
