Okay, since our party has failed us, how do WE stop this damned war??!!! |
|
We misplaced our trust, our sweat, our efforts, our monies into the election of a Congress we believed would bring an end to this war.
So we were played for fools, and with each passing day more will die, more will be displaced, more will suffer. What do we have to do to stop this DAMNED WAR??

1. Keep the pressure on, and elect a Democratic President. Obama, Clinton, Dodd and Kucinich |
|
are all running and they all voted NO. Their detractors refuse to give them credit because they are supporting other candidates, but the fact remains they took a stand and voted No.

7. Oh sure... just keep the money flowing, folks... |

And maybe by January of 2009 a Dem president will propose a troop withdrawl.
HELL FUCKING NO. That's over 18 months from now and it would be probably 24 months for troops to begin withdrawing. Two damned years. No more business as usual. No more "just keep getting out the vote and don't forget to sign your check". PEOPLE ARE DYING RIGHT NOW, day after day. This crap has got to stop. Keep the pressure on? Where? On our ankles as we bend over to let Bush fuck us over again and again? No thanks. We elected Dems to a majority in Congress and they failed us. It's up to the people now.

But they didn't get the super-majority.
I'll withhold absolute judgment until Sept. '09.
Meanwhile I hope they get their shit together.

I don't mean anything like violence against persons. I mean sit ins, strikes, marches, demonstrations, acts of civil disobedience. We've been a very patient anti-war movement. How more patient can we be?

The perception that it only affects people in the miltary and their immediate families is a major obstacle to action. It's one of the evils of an all-volunteer army that war gets compartmentalized and becomes the playthings of jerks like Cheney-Bush. The rest of us don't realize what stake we have in this war. In other words, we have a stake; we just don't realize it.

cut the state off... heh, like hell I'd have the balls to do it. You'd have to organize at least a million or so people before state feels a bit of the burn and lacks the ability to really do anything about it.

20. Start impeachment proceedings against Cheney. |

My thought is it will tie their hands, if nothing else.
Maybe I'm completely wrong. Maybe that will just precipitate them pulling another "Pearl Harbor".
I feel that we should go after this man. Get him into hearings so he cannot be in power.

My very first post on a political forum was about impeachment. I got the same response.
I guess my only answer is to keep trying. Maybe at some point enough Americans will feel the need to march on Washington, or some such thing. Maybe Congress will actually wake up from their money induced narcosis.
I don't know.

24. The democrats need to ban together and come up with their own plan for Iraq |
|
Get the generals who Bush didn't listen to, middle east experts, Iraqi representatives, and diplomats to come up with a realistic solution for Iraq. One involving an exit strategy and putting Iraqis above US business interest. Get some of the moderate republicans involved in the process too so we can get bipartisan support.
We could push it through the media and get international approval from NATO nations and the UN. This will change public opinion and put pressure on this administration to change the course.
Even if the administration doesn't follow the Dem's plan, it will make our party seemed strong and unified with a solution for Iraq, while the republicans would be pushing the same tired of planning looking like fools. This would at least make 2008 an easy win for the President and Congress.

I really and truly hope at least one elected Dem is seeking answers regarding our military buildup near Iran. If they wait until the first alleged bomb is fired by Iran, it will be too late. I don't have faith that they will look into this though.

More tradegy probably has to occur before the propaganda no longer works and politicians have no choice but to start withdrawal. In the meantime, all we can do is keep the pressure on.
