We've planted the garden over a week ago and now breathlessly await the flight of the bumblebee.

10. On tv, some newscaster asked an expert, why did it take 17 years for them to return?
As if they had a choice in the matter. The idiot was clueless that another species might have a different life cycle, and that cicadas had no idea that 17 of our years had passed.

8. I know the feeling
Last week our flowering crab and apple trees were in full bloom and to our great joy the trees were loaded with honey bees as in years past. Also a check up on the beekeepers in our area (NW Wi) by the state inspector said the hives were in excellent shape. Good news all around.

11. I seem to be seeing more than ever this year...
I really thought these things were gone - I rarely see them in my part of PA - but this year - I am seeing lots of them - perhaps the weather has given them an advantage this year...

12. Never see more than 2 at a time
Our garden is full of blooming perennials that used to attract lots of honey bees, yet this year I have only seen 2 bees. I only counted 2 bees on the Mexican Plum tree that is ordinarily covered with bees in early spring. Bee watching/counting has become a pasttime. Pityful.

14. I saw one the other day...I hoped it wouldn't sting me...
Not because it would hurt, but because that would mean one less honeybee!

15. You know, I've wondered if someone, somewhere, tried a little
genetic manipulation to counter the horror of the Africanized Honeybees that are sneaking into our country like illegal immigrants

and it got out of hand.

Now, no one dares admit to it.

Just a thought.

16. A friend of mine has one hive that's doing fine.
I donated already.

A late freeze killed some of the blooms around here so he's putting out sugar water for them. They looked like they were doing great this week when I stopped in to buy some fresh eggs. He's not bigtime or commercial. Just a regular hick like me who likes to raise a truck garden. Gluten etc R not us.

19. A cousin lost $100,00 worth of bees.
After China flooded the market with cheap honey 2-3 years ago, this was the final straw. He's in the process of selling the business.
