Until tonight, my wife was an Obama supporter
Now she is so angry that she's pacing and in tears, saying "Never again."

It's been a year since we agreed about Obama.

Another campaign promise broken.

He's not been so happy with him before now but thought he would turn out OK in the end. Mr. LL's pretty even tempered and has been of the mindset that we need to give him a chance. Now, he's ranting and using bad words.

lets see how this little thing goes with oh the debt ceiling "negotiations," er hostage taking. And if the Republicans decide to continue to be the party of NYET, if the USD stops effectively being the reserve currency... it will evaporate.

All this has definite consequences that it is not GOP, most Americans have no clue about.

35. Great article today on Alternet.com about the decline of empire
http://www.alternet.org/world/149080/4_scenarios_for_the_coming_collapse_of_the_american_empire/

To be predicted, it would have to be understood.

If decline of empires were understood, it could be prevented.

In my opinion, we're already at the state of a bully desperately trying to maintain influence as the bullied begin to push back.

A corrupt government serving the few at the expense of the many is both a cause and a symptom of decay.

10. This time the betrayal was so outrageous that we can no
longer continue to kid ourselves that things will ever get better for regular Americans. Once the president sold us out on this deal, there was nothing left. I suppose next they will take money from Social Security to pay for the welfare given to the rich. I am sick and tired of hearing how we all have to struggle and cut social programs when we are wasting millions of dollars on a few rich bastards.

He compromised his principles yet again.

Those who will continue to receive unemployment benefits are dwarfed in number by those who will be losing benefits even with this extension.

The biggest sellout wat that Obama, ONCE AGAIN, refused to go to battle for what he claimed to believe in. He's in over his head.

Please don't engage in the Republican strategies of rewriting history and repeating something over and over until it's accepted as true.

Obama campaigned agaist excessive secrecy, and he betrayed that position.

He campaigned on the public option, and he betrayed that position.

He campaigned on ended tax cuts for the wealthy, and today he betrayed that position.

16. The unemployment payments will not continue forever.
This tax gift to the rich will not create jobs. This was a major campaign promise that was broken without so much as a little compromise. I was personally sold out because I will be paying a greater percentage of my income in taxes than the rich will be paying. The money I pay in taxes will prevent my family from having even a small vacation this year. How many "vacations" will the rich be having this year?

Our country is borrowing more and more from China to try to compensate for the loss of tax income. How long do you really expect them to keep paying unemployment compensation? They said it will be extended for 13 months, but what happens after those months? This tax deal will keep us in the same dire circumstances that we are in now. Perhaps it is better where you live, but everyone I know is either laid off or is helping to support a family member who is unemployed. I personally am doing everything I can to help three people in my own family who are struggling to find jobs. This tax decision will cost us much more than just money.

26. They want jobs that pay with benefits for their families.
Unemployment payments do not cover everything as it is only a percentage of the lost salary. Also, no benefits and no security. When you are unemployed for more than a year it takes a toll on you that only a real job will fix. This tax cut signifies a loss of hope for a more secure future, because as we have seen for the last 10 years of the tax cuts, there will not be jobs created out of this mess. So maybe a small unemployment check will keep coming in for a few more months, but that is not the same as a job.

We have infrastructure in need of repair and the need to create alternative energy sources, a portion of those $$ could be used for that, creating jobs.

Do you seriously believe extending those tax cuts will create jobs......hasn't worked yet. UI benefits should not have been included, we should not have allowed this to be used as a bargaining chip with the R's. This administration and our Reps. should have learned by now that the republican party has no intention of fair negations. They should have kept UI benefits separate and hammered everyday how the R's were blocking them. We have to stop with the short term solutions and concentrate on long term.

If we separate these issues and really hammer the R's for not supporting UI extension we might actually get them, but we haven't even really tried that. To extend these tax cuts will not help create jobs which is what we need. They haven't accomplished that in nine years and we are going to extend them for two more. Just Listened to Obama's press conference and I'm weary of being called a purist and selfish, so your snark is equally not appreciated and I will end this conversation.

79. When social security funding is cut, as is proposed by this bill

what do you expect is going to happen to social security payouts?

36. He burned the last shred of credibility he had for a temporary crumb that will be gone
before the next cycle.

What a freaking master chess move.

Oh and to his three remaining apologists, "we told you so".

45. Who tied unemployment benefits to tax cuts anyway?
And WHICH party is "in charge" right now? Obama is giving us exactly what HE wants.

53. Obama lied about being a "fierce advocate" for GLBTs and stabbed us in the back on day one.
Literally day one.

29. Just curious, was it due to not taxing the rich, or his record on civil liberties that did it?

48. The same for my wife too!
She tried to find some sort of rational with the benefits extension "compromise". But in the end said, "This really sucks".

It's a sad day.

crowing about how they didn't even get this much from Clinton. I wanted to puke.

60. Your wife may NOT agree with Obama...
But look at the opposition?? If I didn't agree with Obama, I'd still not say "never again"... afterall, if she hadn't voted Obama, we could've been stuck with Palin, as she IS/WAS the one who totally controlled the Republicans hand! Palin would have put your wife into tears within the first month of her being in office! Id gladly take Obama over the opposition! Think of it this way- we're getting the republicans used to the way things SHOULD be done- where it is equal for all who work their butts off for their family in this country- so we can once again be the victors in 2012!

71. welcome to DU!
It's a... dramatic time to join DU--there didn't always use to be so much gnashing of teeth and rending of garments--but I'm glad you're here! And I love and applaud your positive attitude! It's needed right now.

87. President Obama should call Bush a criminal and let the...
"Bush Tax Cuts" (media beining the glorification of Bush) die,
remind the public of his crimes,
and continue with the "Obama Tax Cuts"

We are WAITING, Mr. President...

91. My disappointment in Obama has been steadily increasing
since the healthcare "reform" bill. I have tried and tried to find reasons to still believe in him but I just can't do it anymore.

He had the perfect opportunity to address the Bush tax cuts before the midterms. Republicans had not yet won in large numbers, thus they weren't able to flaunt their victory at that time. But, Obama once again failed to take a stand on something he supposedly felt strongly about. It makes me wonder if he was really ever against letting the tax cuts expire for the wealthy. This was the final straw for me as well. And I voted for him and strongly supported him in the beginning.

I'm getting to the point where there doesn't seem to be much difference in either party. Of course, each party may fight for different things, but ultimately, it just seems like one big business party.
