Lawerence O'Donnell...basically saying..."take your kick to the teeth and enjoy it".... |
|
Some Rethug must have burrowed deep into this clods much too big forehead and poured in some talking points...
He's basically just saying to Lib Dems, take the kick to the teeth and be thankful it wasn't to the eyes and shut up.

1. It wasn't just him. His guests basically said the deal was better than expected. |

Some of them (like uber-progressive-economist James Galbraith) even came out and supported it outright. Anthony Weiner said there were many things he liked in it.

The system is set up to fuck the many for the benefit of the few.
We're supposed to be happy that they left a twenty on the nightstand.

9. Actually the Left does Lawrence... |
|
...It can sit home (like many did last election). Or it can start finding someone to Primary Obama (which many are actually starting to do now).
We are now seeing a full-court press on trying to push this steaming pile of BS on to the base only to find that a lot/most of the base isn't buying it. And are getting 'annoyed' by it.
In short they (DLC/DCCC/DINO and their like) are starting to discover that the days of just 'ignoring' the left are fast ending.

11. I think we saw how that theory worked out in the election in November. |
|
We count. Lawrence O'Donnell worked for the Democrats back when the internet was not so developed, back when things like Wikileaks couldn't happen, when voters were isolated and looked to the major news media rather than their peers and academics for political information. Things have changed, Lawrence O'Donnell.
You just don't count for as much as you used to. Daily Kos and Cenk and Democracy Now and Jon Stewart set the pace for liberal activists nowadays. Obama should have hired a few of our kind for the White House. The next president who is a Democrat will.

some of O'Donnell's guests pulling their punches. I think they are worried that there is a real revolt brewing and they are trying to justify the cave. Basically they are all piling on the "professional left" because they see their own futures fading if the Dem party rebels from their lackluster performance.

They are trying to stop an democratic version of the tea party (minus the racist BS) forming before them (probably to prevent primarying Obama).

Tried to watch his debut but didn't make it. I tune in from time to time but never more than for a couple of minutes. The night he was arguing w/ Rachel during the mid terms, did it for me. She kept saying the Dems needed own the good things they accomplished, he kept saying they couldn't because they would lose. She countered but how do you know if you don't. Hw just kept repeating 'you lose'. Everything he said that night just exemplified everything that was wrong w/ the Democratic party. Haven't watched him since then.

12. He's right. Captured rubberstamps have no pull. |

Why would they? No matter what you got the vote!
Once your vote is automatic, there is no reason to seriously negotiate with you.

14. The problem is that even if your vote is not automatic, you still have no pull. |

So you punish yourself by enabling a Republican, but you don't even get any pull out of it.

16. There is no option but to enable Republican policy. |
|
That is all that is on the menu no matter who is cooking.
You can blah blah all you want but you aren't addressing a Naderite, or a newbie, or kid, or someone who doesn't understand the rules and laws, but a motherfucker who has seen enough of the same pattern.
Far as I'm concerned we may as well be choosing between virgin sacrifices and witch trials. I'd prefer a losing battle than winning with either side, there is no winner. It is a matter of picking a frame to in the end do the same thing.
In any event, I am certain that the DLC/New Dem/Blue Dogs are wrenching the whole system and are creating a political collapse. The Republicans are never, ever going to be post partisan so the closer Democrats come the more absurdly oppositional and extreme they must become unless they wanted to flip/flop and become the left wing.
I'll resist this shifting and narrowing of the spectrum, hopeless or not.
