Phillips - Pledge to Protect Tax Loopholes that Ship New York Jobs to China
Hinchey Calls Out Phillips for his Pledge to Protect Tax Loopholes that Ship New York Jobs to China and Mexico

From Hinchey for Congress:

Congressman Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) today called out George Phillips for his opposition to closing tax loopholes that have shipped up to 3 million American jobs overseas to places like China and Mexico. Phillips signed a pledge against eliminating the tax provisions, which benefit big corporations while costing middle-class workers in New York their jobs.

“On jobs, the choice in this election is clear,” said Hinchey. “I voted to end the tax loopholes that provide incentives for big corporations to ship New York jobs overseas. And I voted against NAFTA and other free trade deals that have cost us millions of jobs. George Phillips, on the other hand, signed a pledge to extend a tax loophole that rewards corporations that ship American jobs overseas. His plan creates jobs in China and Mexico when we need them here at home. Instead of providing tax incentives for companies to ship American jobs overseas, we should be providing tax incentives to create jobs in America. ”

Hinchey voted for more than 40 tax cuts for small businesses and individuals over the last two years. He also voted to pass legislation, which would eliminate overseas tax havens. Hinchey also stood up against the North Atlantic Free Trade Agreement, the Central American Free Trade Agreement and other unfair trade deals that have cost Broome County jobs. Additionally, Hinchey has been a leading advocate for ending job-killing currency abuse by China, which is hurting America’s competitiveness in the global economy.

“My opponent likes to talk about the loss of manufacturing jobs while neglecting to mention that I voted against the unfair trade deals that caused the exportation of those jobs,” said Hinchey. “While the pro-unfair trade, pro-corporate special interests pushed their job-exporting agenda, I was on the other side fighting them. I stood up to the special interests on the trade agreements that had no standards to protect workers – I’m not so sure my opponent would have.”
