Type "wikileaks.org" in your browser URL bar, and you will get...nothing. |
|
I can't describe how disappointing this seemingly trivial failure is for me.
I've been an internet professional for 10 years, and I can't help but see this as the beginning of a very, very dangerous trend.

The politicians are just there as a front for this group. It's an oligarchy of people we've never even heard of, in some cases. They're the ones who own us.

public rebellion against the creeping destruction of basic freedoms in the West.
The TSA flap was nothing. Just wait until they try to take away parts of the Internet. Then, many of us will return to demanding change in the real-world, and frankly, the oligarchs are already in serious trouble. They don't want to deal with this - or, they shouldn't if they have any sense.

Apparently the "Great Firewall of China" is amateur compared to the US' ability to censor.

17. I was pointing out that information is more free in China |
|
And when they censor they don't pretend they're doing anything else.
Thanks to our copyright system and overly legalistic and politicized operating environment we have to operate on pins and needles when distributing information in the USA, but in China it flows freely.

23. It is sad, isn't it? What Wikileaks has exposed is just |
|
how totalitarian this government really is. How much control it has over the entire world and how it uses that power.
Nothing they published, no document they posted on their website, has revealed more about the country we live in than the extreme reaction of this Government to an award-winning, New Media news organization NOT under their control.
If Assange was never heard from again, he has exposed something very frightening about this country. We knew they controlled our media, but now we know to what extent it has been controlled.
People should be up in arms, around the world, at this discovery.

6. There are really two very big trees of possibilities here. |
|
1. This all means big brother realizes how powerful we are and begins oppressing us in hard ways. We lose, because we cannot in a short enough time muster a response. 2. This all means big brother realizes how powerful we are and begins oppressing us in hard ways. We win, because we can respond quickly enough.
There are other possibilities. I've seen nothing happen in the past. This isn't a big deal, and it fades away, and no one responds.
But I think they're fucking with the wrong people here.

One thing I know about Washington. It's a really small town, and everyone knows each other.
We already had 1861, and nobody in their right mind wants another just to prove that it can be done again.

If you have been an internet professional for 10 years you already knew this is not the first instance that American citizens have not been allowed to view certain sites. Been going on forever. This is not a new phenomena as you are insinuating.
