Dan Rather suggest Obama may face a primary challenger
"This is a political nightmare for Barack Obama as president. The more-left portion of his party hates this with a passion. And politically, within his own party, if this goes through, Barack Obama will be in a position to have his shirttail on fire, his back to the wall, and the bill collector at the door. Which is metaphorically a way of saying he's almost guaranteed -- if this goes through -- to have a serious challenge in a Democratic primary for president in 2012."

4. Technically, he's both on and under the bus. It's like a quantum superposition.

6. Dan Rather is a cowardly POS
And nothing he says should be given any serious credibility.

9. Why? Wasn't he the one who let the cat out of
the bag on Bush's brave military service? I thought that was rather brave, and very credible. Is there something else I missed that makes him a cowardly POS?

10. Yes, but that was then...
Now, he's a cowardly POS because he doesn't agree with this person. /sarcasm.

Hard to keep up.

12. How stupid is that. I would think only
a republican would call him a POS.

19. He's not a POS but he's also not the one who broke that story.
It was publicly known and solidly established, before the 60 Minutes broadcast, that Bush had avoided Vietnam service by "somehow" securing a coveted billet in the Air National Guard, that he had failed to take a required physical, and that he was therefore not allowed to fly. If Castro had sent his air force over to attack the Gulf Coast, Bush would not have been available to help defend us.

The papers that Rather did his broadcast about added only a few details, such as a purported directive from Bush's commanding officer that he take the physical by a specific date. I'm among those who think it probable that the papers were not authentic. Whether they were or not, however, they didn't make all that much difference, given what was already known and not disputed.

16. So you were a war correspondent during Vietnam then?
Edited on Tue Dec-07-10 11:26 AM by Erose999
Oh, right, that was Dan Rather. Not you.

Did you get attacked by goons at the '68 Democratic convention?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrlYRWD_tnA

That was Dan Rather too.

Not to mention the whole brouhaha that got Rather fired was started by our good friend Andy Britefart. One of those guys is an unscrupulous "journalist" who made an outrageous claim based on fraudulent evidence and the other one is Dan Rather.

23. Wow. I'm glad you know him so well.
He is one of the most courageous correspondants left. Read his book ( I did when I was 12); learn some history. Educate yourself.

11. I will support a Primary Challenge to Obama
Edited on Tue Dec-07-10 11:05 AM by Winterblues
Even a year ago I would have thought this an absurd thought. After today I will NEVER vote for Obama. I will either vote in a Primary or not vote at all.
