We're about to be lectured by the Pres
Edited on Tue Dec-07-10 02:31 PM by me b zola
CNN has a huge panel of talking heads saying that Obama needs to sell this tax "deal" to liberal Democrats. Take your blood pressure medicine now, its not going to be pretty.

On edit: This is what I posted ealier about the press confrence. Amazing how we can predict future behavior by past performance:

13. Yeah, my blood is already boiling
What I expect to hear is him selling the republican plan to us along with there was nothing he could do to fight it, and hey, we've all got to make some sacrifices.

24. Talking about his tax deal
To add 1000.00 more dollars to each paycheck next year. This is a joke. It's a reduction in what is deducted from our checks for Social Security. The employers will now not have to match this and line their pockets once again. Now employers can count that as everyone's "raise." This is total bullshit. Then they an come back with the old bullshit that SS is short because they lowered the deduction. I've had enough.

47. That's because the ones who do are long dead. The ones who lived through that
Edited on Tue Dec-07-10 03:06 PM by calimary
at the turn of the century and were still waiting for some reforms. Because the shitty life they were living with no rights and no protections needed fixing. And things kinda did get fixed for awhile. And then their generation died off, unable to spread and share the lessons of what had happened to them and what needed to be done about it. And everybody coming up after them learned no lessons and just figured everything was okay and they went to sleep because they thought it was okay. And those who were still awake saw things from a different perspective like maybe this was overkill and unnecessary because things are better than they were back then and why do we need all these "excess" regulations and protections and safeguards? And THEY'RE the ones who decided to "fix" that. While everybody else stayed asleep and forgot that the message needed to be maintained and protected.

It makes me wonder just how frickin' bad it's going to get, and how many of us and our interests are going to be simply abandoned, before things get fixed again. I wonder if I'll see the pendulum swing back again, our way, in my lifetime. And I'm feeling rather doubtful about that.

I hate to quote ralph nader but I remember when he said things were going to have to get REALLY bad before there'd be any changes. I wonder how bad "REALLY bad" is going to be.

:scared: :banghead:

48. Yep, and that is a real fear I have, that things are going to have to get
REALLY bad before there'll be better. There is no generational knowledge of how miserable a place American was for many at one time. And those that try to remind people from where we came are sometimes branded as LW, dirty liberal hippies, socialists and it goes on and on. Like an addiction, I fear this is the same, that not until the country hits rock bottom for most will they wake up.

I just never cease to be amazed at how people fall for propaganda and vote for those politicians most diametrically opposed to their needs and what is better ... The republicans thrive over the generational ignorance of many in terms of how miserable a place American was for many at one time and how we are sliding backward.

And hey, let's screw the teachers and insist that the-world-is-6,000-years-old crap be taught in science class. And after a couple of decades of that, let's all sit around and wonder why we're being outclassed by almost every other nation on the planet.

38. I called my congress critters this morning--
I told my Senator to stand with Bernie on filibustering this "deal". I told my congressman to fight against this and not just give lip service to fighting against it.

I also finally got through to the White House (on hold forever). As I was making my case to the staffer, I could have sworn I heard him turing the pages of a magazine. :eyes:
