it's hard to find someone who went through so much yet remained so strong. |
|
We lost a courageous, beautiful, class act of a human being today.

3. I would have been proud |

to call her First Lady.
Then again, she was too good for politics.
I would say Rest in Peace, but somehow, in whatever afterlife there is, I think she is getting to work. She never did let anything get in her way before.

And, not to take anything away from her strength and dignity, which I admire very much, she was NOT always strong.
She was devastated after the death of her son. She withdrew from people. She sought out ways to deal with her grief in online forums, rather than interact with the people she knew (who also knew her son personally.)
She stopped her law practice because she was so deeply depressed because of her loss.
This is something that I think is important to note.
Elizabeth Edwards was an admirable woman - one of the most admirable that I know of in political life. However, she was just like many others who face hardships, loss and sadness of such a degree that it impacted her personal and professional life.
She came out of that time.
She was, as she noted with her experience with cancer, fortunate to have health care and the financial means to get the medical help she needed to deal with the profound depression that she went through.
Because of that experience, and because she maintained her compassion for others throughout her experiences, she deserves kudos - more than being defined as someone who was always strong - because she wasn't.
she was human, just like the rest of us.
