Red , White & Blue.. Memoriam for a young soldier

Red is the dirt where the life-force pooled
White Hot is the fury in the hearts of the soldier's pals
Blue is the color of the family's forever souls

Dead are the dreams for that once-child into whose eyes a new mother gazed.. all those years ago
Light is the body bag with all that remains, of the remains
Due is the debt of all who care for the families with empty words

Red tee shirt still folded in a drawer at home.. taken out, caressed, and refolded.. again and again
White athletic shoes lined up in a closet, waiting to be worn again, but now a just a home for spiders
Blue windbreaker hung carelessly on a desk chair..never to be laundered. His scent is still there

Read about him in the paper..a few lines summing up a brave wasted life
White & Black photo of a young dead face smiles at us from the grave
New Blue ribbon , purple ribbon, red ribbon, yellow ribbon..lined up.. all in a tidy box

Said he wanted to serve and needed to, for college
White Knight syndrome often inhabits a young soul
True was his love of country, friend and family

Red wagons with laughing children he never had, never pulled by him
Blue ribbons his children would have won in sports, unseen by him
White wedding dress his bride never wore for him

Hang a flag
Watch a parade
Buy a mattress
Stick on another magnet ribbon

He's gone, but out there are Mothers and Fathers harvesting the next crop of Sons of the Red White & Blue
