Burger wars: Jack in the Box sued over ad

LOS ANGELES - The parent company of the Carl's Jr. and Hardee's fast food chains sued rival Jack In The Box Inc. on Friday to stop TV ads that it says suggest Carl's Jr. and Hardee's use cow anus to make Angus beef hamburgers.

CKE Restaurants Inc. sued Jack In The Box in U.S. District Court on Friday over an ad in which executives laugh hysterically at the word "Angus" and another where the chain's pingpong ball-headed mascot, Jack, is asked to point to a diagram of a cow and show where Angus meat comes from.

"I'd rather not," the pointy-nosed Jack replies.

"They're not being funny," CKE chief executive Andrew F. Puzder said Friday. "They need to stop misleading people about what Angus beef is."

on note: I've never seen the ad. I never will, as I live overseas. But it sounds pretty damn funny to me.

My son was watching some sports show yesterday - not sure which sport. I was just in the room putting up laundry - and a commercial for Hardee's came on with a model acting all "sexy" and flitting around whilst eating a hamburger. It was STUPID. It was the same genre as the idiotic Paris Hilton ad from a year or two ago. Scrawny model (who wouldn't stay scrawny if she really ate these huge burgers) blatently sexing up a freakin' burger. :eyes:

Even my son said, "What a stupid way to eat a hamburger!" (he's 8 and is more interested in the hamburger than the model at this point).

All commercials do is mislead you into buying their product. Or at least cajole you to buy it and not tell you the pitfalls of doing so.

More importantly, anyone who learns that "angus" is "anus" from a fast food commercial... they're really stupid. Those pitching that lawsuit are twice as stupid.

It sounds funny... but I'd have to see it. Maybe there is a point, but it's not the main one.
