Biden Unwraps His Bid for ’08 With an Oops!
Source NYT - 1 Feb

"...struggling to explain his description of Senator Barack Obama, the Illinois Democrat running for president, as “the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy.”

Anybody remember Jessie Jackson in '88?

And what is Al Sharpton, chopped Liver??!!

Back to school, Joe!

1. Biden didn't say anything wrong
Others have twisted the sentence structure Biden used to make it look like he said something racist.

2. Can't we just drop this?
This whole media event is harming both of our candidates. The media started by attacking Biden, then they forced Obama to respond so that they could attack him.

DUers should be smarter than to continue to fall for this stuff.

3. Top story on the Today Show this morning.
Good Lord. He did not mean anything racist in his statement. He just meant that Obama is fresh, etc. He is different from Jackson or Sharpton we must admit. The media is just trying to distort the image of Dem candidates because they know the next President will be a Dem. He should have said it better, but it really is no big deal. He should have left out the "African American" part. Obama is half black and half white. Why does he need to be labeled as African American?

4. Obama is actually a true African Americans
His father was African, his mother American.

For example, if your mother was from Greece and your father from Japan, wouldn't you be Japanese Greek.

In this case, it is a geographic, ethnic comment, not merely a racial one.

More precisely he is a Kenyan American.

5. They need to stop this negative attack stuff now!
When the candidates start whine about how bad another is it gives ammo to the right to use against whom ever is the last 'man' standing.

6. Can anyone help me out and explain
how MAINSTREAM is being used. Here is what I come up with.
Fair or Not Jesse Jackson and AL Sharpton are seen as
to far on the Left to be Mainstream. Some may object to
their style.

If they are too left, Does this mean Obama is a centrist.

My Gosh I hope style is not the only determinant.

Obams needs to get some positions out there, Is he
a Centrist?? Is He a Liberal? What is He??

This is not to criticize only to clarify.
