Well, folks! It didn't turn out too great. |
|
There were SO MANY people, we needed nearly 3 times as many Bidenites to get a delegate. There were 231, compared to 120 or so in 2004. So, we needed 35 to get a delegate, but only had 14. I don't know how the other precincts went, but the one my younger daughter was in was a little better, but still short. I haven't heard how my older daughter's precinct went.
The counts were:
Obama 111 Hillary 76 Edwards 44
We shifted 12 of our votes to Obama and 2 went to Hillary.
Dodd had 3, Richardson had 1, Kucinich had 1 and there were only 2 undecideds
When I got there, I couldn't believe the spread for the Hillary and Obama camps. They had one table each set up with food and I had my piddily basket of popcorn. <grin> The other precinct captain ran out and got some pop. Edwards didn't have anything, nor did the other camps.
Many people came up and said they were sorry to see we didn't make it, because Joe was their second choice and they thought he was a really good guy. Doh! I said that the sad thing is the people are voting for their performer, not the one who can do the best job in the Oval Office, and that's what scares me!!!
Meghan, the leader, said Cedar Rapids was going great, as well as Dubuque and that they thought Joe would end up with 4th, which might be enough to push him out of Iowa, but it's still very defeating.
Damn! Sorry!

2. Thanks for the report, and thanks for trying. |

That's a great line..."people are voting for their performer...". So true.

4. I don't know if you've seen the results, but it doesn't look like Joe will be 4th. |
|
Thank you SO MUCH for all your effort! I know you fought the good fight!
Do you know what's next? Will Joe be making an announcement?

7. I just got a call from my grandson and he didn't get a delegate there, either. |
|
What pisses me off, though, is that if the Obama people would have given them their extras, they would have had one. Someone wasn't playing Democrat, they were playing for the biggest numbers for Obama. The Obama camp had told us before they even opened they would give us their leftovers, as did Hillary's people. Edwards did not say so. Someone should be chewed out at that precinct, as they are supposed to pull the best results for the party. My grandson did his best to explain what they were doing, but they wouldn't budge.
Our guy was super and tried his damnest to try to get us a delegate, but if he had pulled the number we needed from Obama, they would have lost one delegate. He couldn't do that. They just had too many.
I'm shocked at how many Dem people showed up. There weren't nearly as many Repugs.

8. sounds like the "get out the vote" |
|
campaigns of the big money candidates just buried the rest - that plus recalcitrance of their people
tonight may mark the end of the war - big business has officially taken control of all aspects of American life. Their media machine brainwashes people, and the people do as they're told. If they had told them to kill puppies they probably would have.

10. I feel bad for my grandkids and kids. I'm so proud of them for trying! |

I'm getting all these calls from them and they tried so hard. They got their friends and neighbors (Jenny even took her neighbor who used a walker, but she was so determined to do what she could for Jenny and the boy across the street who was a Biden precinct captain). Her precinct had 3 times the normal, her father in law's precinct had twice as many. My daughter's precinct had nearly 3 times as many. I mean, it was exploding. People are so angry.
While we were waiting for the people to get registered and settled in, we were visiting about Bush and Cheney. I couldn't believe how well informed they were about what is going on. The corruption and fraud has disgusted all of them and they are bound and determined to knock the Republicans down and out of that WH.
Our leader got up on one of the tables and announced there was a Buick across the street with the lights on. He gave the license number and no one claimed it. One woman yelled out, "It must belong to a Republican." He said, "Well, in that case, we'll just ignore it." Fortunately, they were in a separate part of the building and we didn't run into them.

It's too bad that the Obama and Clinton folks didn't hold up their end of the bargain.
I had great hopes that all of the folks who claimed Biden was their second choice would be more helpful. :(
Hugs to you.
