Anybody watch David Gregory's Road to the Whitehouse show today? |
|
Everyday they discuss a possible veep, and today it was Joe.
It was kinda crappy, they only discussed it for about 3 minutes.
Joan Walsh said she was really warming up to the idea, and John Harwood literally had to jump into to say what a great idea it would be. But there was some guy on that I have never even heard of - Oppenheim. He took up most of the time saying what a bad idea it was...and then Pat Buchanan said that Obama would have to listen to long winded proposals...
Luckily it ended up with Harwood.

1. I was listening to the simulcast on Air America -- |
|
and it seemed rushed -- didn't really DISCUSS it. Just quips. I'm sick of the "he's prone to gaffs" label. With as much as Joe talks (:7) -- I'd say the gaffs are proportionately FEW!

They definitely didn't give Biden the time he deserves. That Oppenheim guy was an ass. He was the one going on about Biden's gaffes. Yeah - Biden does have that problem BUT he can also stay on message when he needs to. There is so much more to Biden than gaffes - and that vote. jeez.

and the gaffe references were annoying. I don't think Biden is anymore prone to gaffes than most politicians. He just has been tagged that way and the press is always ready to pounce on him whenever he talks. I've heard candidates say far worse things than Biden and they haven't been tagged "gaffe prone".

4. I've noticed that too about labels. |
|
Just like when Biden was called a racist - everytime they could interpret his comments as racist - they would.
And don't even get me started about what was done to Bill Clinton this primary season with the use of labels.
I have my degree in teaching and maybe I am more sensitive to the use of labels than most people, but I can't stand it.
Biden has been labeled gaffe-prone and racist....and that is why I'm not so sure anymore that I want him to be VP. The 24 hour news cycle will take sound bites from his speeches and look for these signs.
Maybe someone can explain to me why the msm hasn't given bsh these labels???

5. Once the media puts a tag on someone, |
|
it sticks forever. And when they look back on previous elections, it was always ONE thing that caused a candidate to lose! The media creates its own truth. Kerry didn't lose for one reason (swift-boat ads), he lost for many reasons, including voter manipulations and fraud in Ohio. Now the media says the swift-boat ads cost him the election and that is just too simplistic.
They keep repeating the same myths over and over again, until the general public believes them. It is so frustrating. Americans seem to need everything wrapped up in simple, neat packages that don't require any real thought.
I've thought the same thing about Biden as VP. I don't think I could sit through all the BS again and don't want to see him dragged through the mud.

6. I have alot of respect for Kerry, but |
|
that whole swiftboat ordeal sure got out of hand.
I blame the DNC and the Democratic talking heads as much, if not more, than I blame Kerry. Where were they? Biden was the only one I saw taking the swifties on. (that's when I discovered Biden)
I really think Obama will do a better job fighting back. But already it is frustrating. The msm is dissecting him, yet giving McCain a free pass.

7. Back then the Democrats were walking on |
|
thin ice. The republicans still had an edge on national security and democrats had to weigh every word so carefully. Things are really different this time and the republicans have lost all their credibility.
