Ecuador Captures FARC Rebel Wanted by U.S.
Ecuador Captures FARC Rebel Wanted by U.S.
March 11, 2009

QUITO (Reuters) - Ecuadorean police have captured a Colombian FARC guerrilla commander wanted by Washington on charges he helped run rebel cocaine smuggling operations, authorities said on Wednesday.

The capture of Sixto Antonio Cabana is Ecuador's first major arrest of a FARC guerrilla since it broke ties with Bogota a year ago over a raid by Colombian commandos to kill a top rebel boss hiding inside Ecuadorean territory.

Ecuador police chief Jaime Hurtado said authorities arrested Cabana, also known as "Domingo Bioho," in a remote town near the Colombian border.

Hurtado did not say if Cabana would be extradited to Colombia or the United States, which has offered a $2.5 million reward for his arrest.

1. It was not "Domingo Bioho" of the FARC

Ecuadoran Judicial Police Commander Rafael Yépez said today it was a case of mistaken identity. The captured man was identified as Guerrero Biojo. He said the only coincidences were the similarity of the alias the FARC guy uses and a resemblence in the two men's photographs.

Yépez said Guerro Biojo was not even a member of the FARC and that his fingerprints did not match the fingerprints of the FARC's Sixto Antonio Cabana.

Guerro Biojo is being held because he had two ID cards (one Ecuadoran and the other Colombian) and that he was suspected of dealing in chemicals used to make coca paste.

Reuters will have to correct its report.

2. Better find this out now, than later! Wow.
I guess if he were back in Colombia, they could bury their mistake, by claiming he had been killed in a ferocious gun fight with the military.

3. Good point! You can be sure we wouldn't hear about this if it were in Colombia--

which is run by the biggest liars and disinformationists in the hemisphere, outside of our Bushwhacks. (How many times did they kill Al Qaeda's "second in command" in Iraq? Half a dozen at least.)

Ecuador has an honest, democratic, transparent, leftist government. That's why we know they made a mistake. Colombia is a Rumsfeldian state that lives on lies, and thrives on chaos. They kill innocent youths and dress their corpses up like FARC guerrillas, to up their body count to impress U.S. senators. Their civil and military leaders are filthy with drug trafficking, weapons trafficking and death squads, yet they purport to be fighting a "war on drugs"--again, for U.S. consumption, to keep those billions of U.S. tax dollars flowing in. And, even with all that military aid ($6 BILLION!), they can't even pull off a raid into Ecuador without relying on U.S. high tech surveillance, and U.S. "smart bombs" likely dropped out of a U.S. plane from the U.S. military base in Manta, Ecuador. I think they used Rumsfeld's private "Office of Special Plans" to concoct their lies about Chavez and Correa in that FARC "miracle laptop" (later, laptopS). Their "big moment"--the 'rescue' of Ingrid Betacourt--was orchestrated out of the U.S. embassy 'war room' in Bogota (from where the U.S. probably also orchestrated the raid on Ecuador), with John McCain invited to bask in the glory. What do Colombia's civil and military leaders do, except lie through their teeth and collect money, hand over fist, from U.S. taxpayers and cocaine drug lords?!

4. There's no way in hell they're going to willingly give up their steady enormous cash infusion
from the U.S. even if they have to kill off the last civilians and dress them as FARCs themselves to prove there's an ongoing need for megabucks from the uninsured, homeless, barely employed, sometimes not employed U.S. taxpayers.
