Ros-Lehtinen to Visit Honduras for Meetings with Top Officials

Ros-Lehtinen to Visit Honduras for Meetings with Top Officials

Questions how U.S. policy advances Honduran democracy and U.S. interests

(WASHINGTON) - U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Ranking Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, will travel to Honduras next week to examine how current U.S. policy is undermining the democratic aspirations of the Honduran people and vital U.S. national security and commercial interests.

This official visit comes as former President Manuel Zelaya provocatively snuck back into the country nine days ago and as missions from the Organization of American States (OAS) are scheduled to arrive in the country.

Ros-Lehtinen will hear first-hand from members of the current Honduran government and public who have been barred from traveling to the United States for meetings.

In addition to an expected meeting with President Roberto Micheletti, Ros-Lehtinen plans to meet with Honduran Foreign Minister Carlos Lopez Contreras, Deputy Foreign Minister Martha Lorena Alvarado, Cardinal Oscar Andres Rodriguez, civil society representatives, and American business leaders living in Honduras.

Ros-Lehtinen will also meet with U.S. embassy officials for a classified briefing on U.S. security interests related to Honduras and the region.

“I am traveling to Honduras to conduct my own assessment of the situation on the ground and the state of U.S. interests in light of the U.S.’s misguided Zelaya-focused approach,” Ros-Lehtinen said.

“I also wish to ensure that the Honduran people and democratic constitutional government have the opportunity to tell their side of the story, given that the international community has ignored the will of the Honduran people throughout this process,” she said.

1. Llorens must be thrilled, jumping with joy.

To be able to chat with a fellow Miami gusana and find a peaceful and rapid solution to the crisis.

Just in case ---- :sarcasm:

4. Think Micheletti should be concerned.
She appears in the British documentary 638 Ways to Kill Castro, saying: "I welcome the opportunity of having anyone assassinate Fidel Castro and any leader who is oppressing the people."

Or is she just junketing to savor the beatings and killings in the Honduran streets.

6. Not for 1 second.
Castro is her platform. her ticket, her primary plank, her stepping stone. Why on earth would she want to get rid of that? Every single thing she has ever done, politically, has been to keep the Castro regime in power.

No Castro = no anti Castro lobbying.

Plus, I'm sure that when Cubans in Cuba hear of her trip to meet with the bloodsoaked Pinochettis, and they will, it will send the preprogrammed shiver down their collective spine. Nothing solidifies the Cuban base in Cuba more than the She Wolf and the Diaz Blowhards. This is the game at hand, and has been for as long as I've been watching.

:hi:

7. This is why I won't vote Republican
If Ros Lehtinen is the ranking GOP member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, there's no way in hell I'll ever vote Republican.

Your Cuba posts make it seem as though you're two peas of the same pod.

I know Cuba isn't a major issue to most voters, but ......
