Canadian Writer Extols the Cuba 2010 Int'l Book Fair http://www.ain.cubaweb.cu/idioma/ingles/2010/0222canadiense.htm
HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 22 (acn) “The International Book Fair allows for exchanges between creators and the public, and for me that is the most important aspect of the event," said renowned Canadian writer Margaret Atwood, who was invited to this year’s book fiesta.
Atwood praised the organization of this type of event, where readers can buy books at affordable prices and which facilitates meetings between personalities in this field to talk about their work and experiences. The Canadian writer praised the modernization of printing techniques, by way of which it is possible to publish many more texts in a shorter period time and with higher quality. In related news, Juan Jose Sanchez, president of the Miguel Hernandez Cultural Foundation from Orihuela, Spain, said he was impressed by the possibility of establishing bonds with publishing houses and organizations from different countries during the Fair. Sanchez added that such relations make it possible for foreign figures of different art expressions to take part in the literary event, while at the same time give Cubans an opportunity to access books published abroad. The program for the 19th International Book Fair held at the Morro-Cabaña cultural complex wrapped up on Sunday and will continue, as of February 24, in the rest of the country until March 7

1. You sure this wasn't a 1910 book fair? |

From the article: The Canadian writer praised the modernization of printing techniques, by way of which it is possible to publish many more texts in a shorter period time and with higher quality. Just wait until he sees a kindle.

4. Ms Atwood is female, and pretty hip from what I can tell. |
|
At least she writes some pretty "advanced" fiction. If you don't like Cuba that's fine, but I would not want to piss off Ms Atwood.

6. Well, I don't like propaganda much either, but it is hardly a Cuban invention. nt |

3. It's been a big deal for years, and growing! |

Even heard Colombia has a lot of books there, for some reason, or another, maybe bedtime storybooks for baby death squader children.
They only kill the children of other Colombians. You have to wonder where they stand, morally, on abortion, since they've tortured and slaughtered so many living, physically functioning, conscious little ones, don't you?
Maybe their association with Cuban people through reading and the Book Fair will humanize some of them, or at least the readers in their families.
