Everyone used to pronounce it "Chilly," now it's "Chee-leh."

Which is of course more correct.

I think this says something about the rising importance of Latin American countries in the collective American mind.

1. it helps that it's been in the news lately...
I didn't know how to pronounce "Moscow" (I said "MOSS-COW") until my late 20s...I spied my dad reading a book called "There's No Cow In Moscow"

the correct English way is of course like "MUSS-KU"

2. in Spanish, London is Londres Deutschland is Alemania
I see no particular reason why we in the US should attempt to say it the way the native people do.
