Note the deflection of the topic of
US policy in the story that allowed this cretin to enter the US illegally (via smugglers operation - paid for by his famous half brother),
despite the fact that he was denied a legal US visa because of his violent criminal record in Cuba.Current US policy allows illegal entrants like this criminal to be set free on the streets of Miami within 24 hours of his illegal entry- a fresh new clean slate despite his violent criminal history - plus he gets all of the benefits offered to Cubans immigrants only, at US taxpayer expense.
He even qualified for a Florida concealed weapons permit - despite violent felonies in his past. Now this man's latest victims and US taxpayers will continue to foot the costs of insane policies like the US's Wet Foot/Dry Foot and Cuban Adjustment Act policies.
Shooter had violent past
http://www.wsvn.com/news/articles/local/22001395301054/HIALEAH, Fla. (WSVN) -- The troubled past of a gunman who set out to kill women inside a South Florida restaurant is coming to light.
Family members of Gerardo Regalado's late wife painted a disturbing picture of him. They said he abused and terrorized women for years. The 38-year-old gunned down his wife, Liazan Molina, on Sunday at Yoyito restaurant, where she worked. Her relatives in Cuba said they feared this would happen.
Before the rampage, Regalado had a clean record in the United States. However, back in Cuba, Regalado spent hard time in prison. Nelson Molina Martinez said Regalado stuck a woman in a pig pen; another one he burned her chest with an iron. "We all knew it, but his wife constantly defended him," he said during a phone conversation, in translation.
Molina's uncle went on to say that Regalado beat her repeatedly and forced her to eat paper once. He called Regalado "an animal."
Relatives said he was smuggled into the U.S. but his Cuban criminal record kept his half brother, former Yankees pitcher Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez from legally claiming him.
Yet, Regalado was a resident and did have a concealed weapons permit. He bought a gun and police said, he used it to commit mass murders Sunday night.
A vigil was held for the seven women he took aim at before turning the gun on himself. Raul Rubio's mother, Mayra de le Caridad, is among the victims. Surveillance video showed her cleaning up before the gunfire. A bullet pierced her lung and now she's struggling with her memory. "When she falls asleep, she gets a flashback and says something about the kitchen." said Rubio. "
Funeral services have been held for three of the four women, including Maysel Figueroa. Her relatives want her body sent back to Cuba. Her ex-husband in Cuba is asking for his 5-year-old son to return too.
The only one who hasn't been mourned publicly is the shooter's wife, Molina. Her relatives have requested that her remains be sent back to Cuba.
One restaurant worker said all the women were hard workers who came to this country for their freedom.
The horror. :(
on edit: I guess that I should add that it is a minority of Cubans in the US who arrive in the US illegally like the above mentioned cretin. Most Cubans immigrate to the US legally by applying for one of the 20,000+ legal US visas offered by the US to Cubans, and complying/conforming with US rules and regulations regarding their application.
