Venezuelan Congress rejects "meddling" of Chilean Senate
The Venezuelan Parliament described Chilean senators as “Pinochet’s supporters” and accused them of trying to cast doubt on the transparency of the parliamentary elections to be held next September 26

Venezuela's National Assembly rejected in a plenary session a resolution adopted on Wednesday by the Chilean Senate urging several international organizations to ensure transparency in Venezuelan parliamentary elections to be held on September 26.

The Venezuelan Congress described Chilean senators as "Pinochet's supporters" and accused them of trying to question the transparency of Venezuela's impending parliamentary elections.

Deputy Cilia Flores, the speaker of the National Assembly (AN), called Chilean Senators "stupid and ridiculous." She warned that they would not be invited to Venezuela as electoral observers.

"These 15 Chilean Senators are stupid and they take it as read that they are going to govern our electoral process. They disregard the fact that Venezuela is a sovereign country. We are free, independent. They say that they are coming to Venezuela! Can you imagine that? They are stupid and ridiculous. Forget about coming to Venezuela!" said Flores.

1. Misleading headline, article by El Universal (as usual)

The Chilean Senate has 38 members. The resolution to send "observers" to Venezuela was approved by only 15 senators, way fewer than half of the body.

The majority of the 15 senators are from Renovacion Nacional (RN-rightwingers) and UDI (extreme-rightwing pinochetistas).

It is ironic that the RNers and UDIers are so concerned about democracy in Venezuela. They were not concerned at all about democracy in Chile during the long pinochet dictatorship.

Btw, Hugo Chavez today said they would NOT be allowed into Venezuela as election observers. "Who the hell do they think they are?"

3. The world's going to be a much cleaner, finer place when the hard right fascistas in Chile,
and Argentina fade away, FINALLY.

The pure seething hatred from those groups which manifested in the Dirty War, and the hellacious Pinochet violent coup, and violent, sadistic U.S. supported government darkened, contaminated the Americas, and that disease still continues.

It will be gone, in time. Same with their philosophical brothers here.

In the meantime, it's going to take strong people to exert the resistance needed to keep them from murdering, scheming their way back to power.

As for the Venezuelan oligarchs, we've seen them run right through their own list of schemes, tactics, meeting failure, and moving on to the next one.

Wonder if they're going to resurrect their "guarimbas" during the run-up to the next election.

2. Good thing
That Chavez doesn't meddle in other countries or he would look like a hypocrite.

4. Have you any link, credible that is, tying Chavez to "meddling".
Now, of course, Chavez is part of a huge progressive wave sweeping the continent. And no doubt he's an inspiration to many. And it then follows that a greedy right-wing minority is pulling it's collective hair out over it.

Oh, well.
