Cuban communist says Party shouldn't kick him out
HAVANA — A prominent Cuban intellectual who publicly decried government corruption is fighting expulsion from the Communist Party, saying the punishment would hurt the country's global standing.

Historian Esteban Morales was recently ordered removed by a party committee in Havana's Playa district, but lower-ranking members deemed the action too harsh and rejected it while Morales appeals.

At issue is a blistering article he wrote in April declaring that corruption at the top of Cuba's government — not the meddling of opposition activists — is the greatest threat to the island's communist system.

1. Are we all supposed to support this person?
He's criticizing the gov for not being commie enough.

I agree with some posters here who say that it's time for the old guard to step aside.

I think that the time is due for a new communist youth party to come to the fore in Cuba, with the fresh energy and idealism needed to defend Cuba against the immense growth and efficiency of rapacious disaster capitalism that is destroying our planet.

They should give no quarter to the privatizers and faux neocommies.

My 2 cents.

Cheers

2. I don't know.
I am not a communist, so I don't really care about their little squabbles. Communism has resulted in nothing but death and oppression everywhere.

3. Unlike capitalism.
Or religion.

Maybe it isn't the system. Maybe it is the people who abuse them.

4. No it's the system.
Capitalism brought man out of subsistence living and has brought wealth and leisure and extended lives to billions. This is why people from communist countries try to flee to capitalist ones. Communism has never brought prosperity to anyone except those in charge.

5. Not only that but:
"lower-ranking members deemed the action too harsh and rejected it while Morales appeals".

How can you run a decent Communist dictatorship when the "lower-ranking members" are allowed to get in the way like that?
