Fujimori Loses Outright Lead in Peru Presidential Poll, El Comercio Says
By John Quigley - Aug 16, 2010 9:58 AM CT

Keiko Fujimori, a Peruvian congresswoman and daughter of jailed former President Alberto Fujimori, saw her lead eroded in an opinion poll before April’s presidential election, El Comercio reported.

Support for Fujimori slipped two percentage points from last month to 20 percent of those surveyed, tied with Lima Mayor Luis Castaneda, the Lima-based newspaper said, citing an Ipsos Apoyo poll taken Aug. 11 to 13.

Former President Alejandro Toledo had 14 percent support and opposition politician Ollanta Humala had 12 percent, the newspaper said. Fujimori was the only major candidate whose numbers changed from the group’s July survey.

The survey of 1,200 people in 16 Peruvian cities had a margin of error of 4.4 percentage points for Lima and 2.8 percentage points overall.
