German Fascism vs. Chavez, Allende, Sandinistas - Angela Merkl is Busy

Germans are so good at recycling!
May 17, 2008 · No Comments

A headline in Friday’s New York Times owned International Herald Tribune, claimed that Peru’s President, Alan García, has come to the defense of Angela Merkel “in a verbal spat with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez,” saying “No one has a reason to use exaggerated or insulting terms with respect to another country or leader because that reduces the level of discourse.”

Machetera is sure that President Garcia also must have pointed this out to the King of Spain several months ago.

But what did Chávez say that was so shocking? Well, let’s back up a minute and see what Merkel said first, the part that you can’t find anywhere in the English language press - about Latin American countries needing to distance themselves from governments such as the one headed by Hugo Chávez. Chávez mentioned Merkel’s remarks on his television show, “Alo Presidente,” and said, in reply, “Get Out!” which Reuters, in an imaginative linguistic stretch, translated as meaning “Go to hell,” even though the word “hell” was never actually used…the Reuters correspondent, apparently also a gifted mind reader, claimed that since Chávez had followed this with “Because she’s a lady, I won’t say anything more,” he really meant to add “al infierno” to the formal “Vaya usted!” but didn’t because it was Mother’s Day. (You can see what Chávez said, exactly the way he said it - in Spanish - here.)

But that’s not what’s got all the media’s knickers in a twist now. Now the problem is that Chávez pointed out the relationship between Angela Merkel’s party, the Christian Democratic Union, and fascism. See, this is what keeps getting Chávez in trouble with the press. He tells the truth.

(Alert readers will notice the similarities in this tale with what was done to President Aristide, in Haiti.)

Why it’s Vital for the ALBA (Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas) Countries to Remind Merkel and her Co-religionists What They Did in Chile

Ingo Niebel - Rebelión

Translation: Machetera

Once again, the German media are angry with President Hugo Chávez. This time, the pretext is that he put the head of the German government, Chancellor Angela Merkel, in her place. The interesting thing is that the German press accuse the commander of the Bolivarian Revolution of having compared the Christian Democrat with the Nazi leader, Adolf Hitler, which isn’t true.

1. And Now Angela Wants to Help Colombia with Militia Crimes . . .

German chancellor promises Colombia help with militia crimes

Bogota - German Chancellor Angela Merkel Saturday pledged to support Colombia in its attempt to prosecute and come to terms with its history of right-wing paramilitary death squadrons who are part of an amnesty process launched by Colombian President Alvaro Uribe.

In the first visit ever by a German head of state to the violence- plagued country, Merkel supported Uribe in his efforts to buttress the authority of the state over the broiling conflicts that have put many sections of the country in a state of civil war.

After meeting with Uribe, Merkel said that consequential pursuit of the crimes of the past by the paramilitary troops was essential to re-establishing the trust of the people in the state.

Uribe defended his policies against charges that he has not prosecuted the right-wing paramilitary leaders harshly enough. Earlier this week, Colombia extradited 14 top right wing paramilitary leaders and drug dealers to the United States, where they are wanted on drug charges.

Under the amnesty, rank and file troops were allowed to turn in their guns and return to civilian life while leaders were kept in jail.

Meanwhile, the left wing Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) holds sway over large parts of the country, where they are holding hostages - some of them for more than seven years, and many of them top elected officials and security officers.

Merkel greeted the massive investigation into 60 legislators - more than half of the Colombian Parliament - suspected of being closely tied to the right wing paramilitary forces. Merkel said the probe showed that the justice system was working.

Merkel indicated that she would like to meet with the State's Attorney for a briefing about the investigations. (dpa)

2. Isn't this sad? Poor woman huddled with Bush at his ranch, then scheduled stops
in Colombia, Brazil, Peru, and Mexico for her own tour of Latin America.

Merkel: Germany supports Colombia's anti-narcotics program

BOGOTA, May 17 (Xinhua) -- Visiting German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Saturday that Germany fully supports Colombian government's anti-drug operations and plans to offer aid to the Latin American country's anti-narcotics program to eradicate coca plants.

Merkel made the remarks at a press conference after meeting with Colombian President Alvaro Uribe. The German chancellor started her two-day visit to Colombia Saturday.

Germany is quite interested in Colombia's strategy of coca plants eradication and will consider offering funds or technology in aid to ensure the sustainable implementation of the plan, Merkel said.

In 2003, the Colombian government launched an anti-narcotics strategy, encouraging some 66,000 families with allowances or alternative plants to give up planting coca, a raw material for cocaine. The strategy is expected to help eradicate about 100,000 hectares of coca plants in 2008.

Now there's some wasted time, talking to a friend of Bush's. Their ears are nailed shut to others' thoughts, as they simply have no room available for liberals in their mental picture of how they want our world to operate.
