Netanyahu apologizes to U.S. lawmaker for praising Fidel Castro
Edited on Wed Nov-24-10 06:44 AM by dipsydoodle
Found this over in the I/P Forum.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu apologized to a Republican congresswoman two weeks ago for having praised Fidel Castro after the former Cuban leader made positive remarks about Israel.

In a September interview with The Atlantic reporter Jeffrey Goldberg, Castro defended Israel and Jews and criticized Iran, leading to praise from Netanyahu and a friendly letter from President Shimon Peres.

Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen of Florida, a legislator since 1989 and the most senior Republican woman in the U.S. House, is incoming chairwoman of the influential House Foreign Affairs Committee. Representing Florida's 18th Congressional District - which includes part of Miami-Dade County, with its large Cuban-immigrant community - she is known in Washington for her hard line against the Cuban regime as well as her unflinching support for Israel.

Ros-Lehtinen was born in Havana, and as a girl came to Florida, where her father continued the anti-Castro campaign among Cuban expatriates. Over the past few years she has sponsored several legislative measures against the island's Communist regime and has gone as far as to call for Castro's assassination.

1. Ileana Ros got heat for encouraging assassination of Fidel in the doc.
Her office first denied her ever saying it (repugs seem oblivious to technology like: video and audio recordings). Then she said she might have. Then she admitted it and apologized ONLY when the documentarian posted the full clip on the 638 Ways To Kill Castro website.

It is against the law for congresscritters to call for assassinations of foreign heads of states.

Netanyahu Apologizes to U.S. Politician, After Praising Castro

During his last official visit to the U.S., the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had to apologize to a Republican congresswoman, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, for having praised Fidel Castro, after the Cuban leader stressed the suffering of the Jews throughout history.

In September, The Atlantic Monthly newspaper published an interview with Fidel Castro, in which the Cuban political leader defended for the first time Israel against the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's comments, who had declared that the Holocaust was "a myth".

"The Jews have lived an existence that is much harder than ours. There is nothing that compares to the Holocaust," Castro claimed at that time.

The Cuban leader received praise from Netanyahu and a friendly letter from President Shimon Peres after this statement.

However, Ros-Lehtinen, of Cuban origins, urged for Netanyahu's retraction and apology, which came during the prime minister's visit to the U.S two weeks ago, during a private conversation.

3. Glad your channel 4 has this great documentary on file. It's so worth the trouble of watching.

I loved the opportunity of being able to see these lard-ass a-holes yammering on and on and on from Florida, some of them who are names I've seen a lot in news articles. What a slimy bunch. Cuba was so lucky to see them go after the revolution. They still don't understand Cuba DOESN'T WANT THEM BACK. That's why they had the revolution in the first place.

Ileana Ros-Lehtinen can't conduct herself very well when she gets a little power behind her. She runs amock. Not one bit of self-control, emotionally. Very typical of idiots. Employing her to work on the taxpayers' dime in Washington is a hideous waste of resources. Only idiots would keep sending her there to represent them.

4. Speaking of Ileana Ros-Lehtinen's call for assassination, she needs to shut the #### up,
and stop trying to control US foreign relations with Latin America.

It's time this little scumball hangs it up, waddles back to Miami, and join one of those Cuban para squads. Put her money where her ugly mouth is.
