Colombian ex-policemen arrested on corruption charges
Eight former policemen have been arrested in Colombia on suspicion of collaborating with a drug gang.

Officials said they discovered the links when they seized computer memory sticks, which they say contained videos showing the officers being paid off by members of the Rastrojos gang.

The men are reported to have held influential police posts until 2009.

During that time they are accused of allowing the gang free reign in the Valle del Cauca region.

1. They videotaped themselves taking bribes? That's weird.
I have a feeling that, in Colombia--as in Mexico--what is really happening is that preferred, protected drug lords and networks are being helped by government forces (with billions of U.S. taxpayer money) going after the ones who won't "play ball" (won't funnel cash to the CIA? to Colombian "players"?).

Just a guess. Cynical me.

Authorities on Saturday arrested eight former policemen and one former army sergeant for alleged ties to drug trafficking organizations.

According to newspaper El Espectador, eight former policemen were arrested in the south western department of Valle del Cauca for ties to the drug gang "Los Rastrojos." According to the accusations, the former cops allowed the drug gang to operate in their jurisdiction.

According to Caracol Radio, a former army sergeant was arrested in the north Colombian town of Sincelejo for allegedly being one of the leaders of the neo-paramilitary drug trafficking organization "Los Paisas."

All suspects will have to respond to conspiracy charges.
