Cuba expects to sell four million cases of rum in 2011

Havana, April 12 : Cuba expects to sell four million cases of its flagship rum Havana Club in 2011, despite a US decision not to renew its marketing license in the country, president of the state-owned Cuban Rum Corporation said here.

"The Cuban industrial capability is at a very high level," president of the Cuban Rum Corporation Juan Gonzalez said, adding they expected rum exports would reach more than USD 100 million in 2011.

Arian Remedios, legal advisor of Havana Club International, said the company sold 3.8 million cases of rum in 2010, a growth of 14 percent over the previous year, reported Xinhua.

A US federal appeal court in Washington decided last week not to renew the marketing licence of the Cuban brand in the US, which was acquired by Cuba in 1976, due to the embargo against the island which has been in effect since 1962.

Rum wasn't exactly my favorite until I landed up drinking it by accident there.

and there was a tropical storm running at full steam. The lightening made it like daylight. They decided to go in the sea and asked me to look after their camera gear. The drinks were all included anyway but to thank me they got me a rum punch just for a laugh. So - it became lager in the daytime , after 10am ....lol, and rum punch in volume at night. Drinking as you go don't make you drunk anyway.

4. Drinking rum and Coca Cola

Just curious, did you see whether Coca Cola is available in Cuba while you were there?

whether there was the real stuff or just Coke of some description. I pal'd up with a couple of Dutch girls there who drunk rum and coke - I'll ask them.

Found this just now : http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18664571/ns/business-world_business/

I also found reference to real Coca Cola coming in from Spain and another which mentioned Sprite and Coca Cola coming in from Mexico.

:hi:

edit to add : Andrews Sisters : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGxL2uNr7bk

6. Absolutely! It's everywhere, but not diet. Otherwise you can have TuCola, Cuban
soda and even Diet TuCola (scary). Also you can have Fanta or Sprite and even 7up.

7. So, Coca Cola does an end run around the blockade

A few years ago a nephew of Ms. rabs brought me a bottle of Havana Club. From Sao Paulo. It lasted me a long time. Can't get it in these here parts though.

Meantime, since the rum and coke was in Trinidad, let me treat you and DipsyD to a mojito made in Havana. Cheers.
