1. That was great! I was just thinking yesterday about Cuba's work with Chernobyl victims, too.
I was wondering if any organizations in Japan might be contacting Cuba, as well, after learning how much help Chernobyl victims have been receiving from Cuban medical people. I learned about this only around 2000, but they had been working very successfully with them already by the time I found out.

Excellent hearing Mika's comments on the Smile Brigade's work in the Americas.

He sounded very pleasantly suprised learning Tom Brokaw had been helped in the same way earlier in his life. It seemed Mika was glad thinking how well he had turned out!

Now that we're thinking about it, surgical techniques have probably been greatly refined since Brokaw would have had his work done so many years ago, too! The future probably looks very good for most of these people with whom Mika has worked already.

Thanks for sharing this, we wouldn't have heard it otherwise, Billy Burnett! :hi:

2. I didn't know that children born with cleft palate was one of the effects of Chernobyl.
Mika said that it's from the radiation damage to genes. Ouch. The horrors. Relatively speaking, it is not discussed much.

3. Judi, how right you are.
There are more advances every year regarding cranio-facial surgical techniques.

It was news to me about Tom Brokaw. Above link mentions it.

Of course, after waiting on hold for 20 or so minutes, the UPS delivery guy was at my door just as Thom picked up my call so I was slightly distracted. I wanted to mention that the Cuban Ministry of Health is preparing an offer to treat victims of Fukushima radiation poisoning and has already offered a brigade for emergency response.

Thanks, Billy and Judi for the kind words. :grouphug: I'm getting ready for another Nicaragua mission. There is nothing in this world, right at this point in my life, than helping children be able to smile.

My love to all herein. :hi:
