Colombia says Chavez helpful against FARC
Colombia says Chavez helpful against FARC
Fecha: 19/04/2011

Colombia's President Juan Manuel Santos said left-wing FARC guerrillas are probably operating in neighboring Venezuela but that leftist President Hugo Chavez was helping to battle them.

"It is likely that the guerrillas are also present in Venezuela, but I am confident that they are not under the protection of the Venezuelan government," he told Radio Caracol on Monday.

"President Chavez has said: 'If you find a FARC camp in Venezuela, give me the coordinates and we will respond immediately.' When we have given him the information, he has responded," he said.

The presence of FARC militants in Venezuela had been a recurrent source of discord between the two countries under Santos's predecessor, Alvaro Uribe.

1. JuanMa is backpedaling

You will recall that several days ago in Madrid, Santos said there were "no FARC camps in Venezuela" anymore, a few days after his meeting with Hugo Chavez in Cartegena.

So alvarito slammed Santos for saying that.

Santos retreated, saying that that he was going on what Hugo had told him.

Then yesterday, another step back. Santos is now saying it is "probable" there are still FARC camps in Venezuela, that maybe they moved the camps from one location to another.

--------------------

Guess Santos felt the uribista heat and is backtracking to mollify them.

Now we will have to wait to see whether Chavez (or someone else) bothers to respond. It's probably more fun in Caracas to watch alvarito and Santos fuming and fussing.

2. Yes, that was an odd turn of events. When JuanMa made his first statement,
it didn't appear he imagined he'd be issuing a modififying statement later on the same subject. He seemed firmly convinced that there were no FARC camps, period. End of subject, say no more.

It probably would have been hilarious seeing Uribe after he heard that, after all the noise he made for YEARS claiming the Venezuelan President was harboring terrorists. There were terrorists there, all right. HIS AUC terrorists, sent there to kill Chavez a couple of times we know about, at least, all the way off in the States, drowning in corporate-dictated crap.

Hope he'll be keeping a list of the times Uribe has made him take it in the shorts publicly for his own face-saving. Hope he broods over it, developes a super-sized grudge, then, when Uribe least expects it, goes after him in a way he'll never forget, becoming his worst nightmare, even worse than having the para-nightmares Uribe used against others coming after him, Alvaritito.

3. It's all bullshit anyway, none of Uribe, Santos, or Chavez is in a position to know
for sure what the guerillas are up, I mean that's the whole point of being a guerilla.

4. LOL. "Underwear will be worn on the outside, so we can check!"
It is funny in a way how the location of FARC camps, something none of them can control, is code for being friends or not.
