US diplomats question Haiti's lawmaker elections

Well, well, wonder what hil will have to say about her own diplomats casting doubts about the legitimacy of the elections. Maybe this is why four more days were needed to arrange the "fix."

Though find it strange that the skewing was in favor of Preval's Unity.

By TRENTON DANIEL, Associated Press Trenton Daniel, Associated Press – 51 mins ago
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti – The legitimacy of Haiti's election could be in question after officials released results showing 18 legislative candidates suddenly received thousands of votes and were named winners, U.S. diplomats said Friday.

The U.S. Embassy said it was troubled by final election results released late Wednesday that gave victories to 17 Chamber of Deputies candidates and one Senate candidate who ended up with far more votes than they had when preliminary returns were announced April 4.

"We have found no explanation for the reversals of 18 legislative races in the final results, which in all except two cases benefited the incumbent party" of outgoing President Rene Preval, the U.S. Embassy said in a statement. "Without a public explanation and review ... the legitimacy of seating these candidates is in question."

The United Nations, which has a peacekeeping force in Haiti, also expressed concerns over the election results, which gave Unity 46 of the 99 seats in the Chamber of Deputies and an absolute majority in the Senate with 17 of 30 seats.

Earlier Thursday, Martelly had wrapped up a three-day visit to Washington, where he met with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and the heads of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund. Clinton enthusiastically said she supported Martelly, who was a popular musician before he became a surprise candidate in the Nov. 28 presidential and legislative elections financed by the United States and other members of the international community.

Shortly after Haitian officials released the final results late Wednesday, demonstrations popped up in the countryside. Some turned violent. A staff member for the Boston-based Partners in Health was killed after protesters set fire to a house in the border town of Belladere, officials said Friday

1. Who would unrec this Associated Pukes article? Odd.
And speaking of the Associated Pukes, get this:

"...the Nov. 28 presidential and legislative elections financed by the United States and other members of the international community. --Assc Pukes

If it's the same suspects who helped the U.S. fix the presidential race in the first round, we're talking two notorious oppressors of Haiti--the U.S. and France, and U.S. cohort in election fraud and other rotten deeds, Canada.

Given this U.S. diplomatic flapdoodle about the legislative elections, Hillary must be hopping mad at Preval for giving Aristide a passport. Something goin' down about this, and probably also about the $9 billion in international aid that Bill is holding the strings to.

All I can say is that Haiti's strategic location near Cuba (and Guantanamo Bay) and its central position the U.S. corporate/Pentagon "circle the wagons" region--Central America/ the Caribbean ('circling the wagons" against South American leftist unity), is very unfortunate for Haiti as it is for Honduras. The Corporates and the "Southern Command" are hanging onto these countries by tooth and claw.

2. Ah, ha, the reason the U.S. Embassy is pissed dawns

After a second reading of the story, the embassy and the U.N. mission are all hurly burly because the results benefited precisely Preval's Unity, which will now be the majority opposition.

This was not supposed to happen because Unity will hamstring Sweet Micky in the Congress in everything, especially in how the nine billion will be doled out.

So it certainly appears the legislative elections (or the count) have backfired on hil and company.

Maybe hil will order another recount.
