Slim and Uribe to attract foreign investment for Honduras’ regime
Slim and Uribe to attract foreign investment for Honduras’ regime
Miércoles 27 de Abril de 2011 03:02 Editor

According to Honduran media Mexico's businessman Carlos Slim and former Colombian President Alvaro Uribe, confirmed their participation for the International Conference “Honduras is Open for Business” to be held on May 5th and 6th in the city of San Pedro Sula. It is the second time the arrival of Slim is announced after postponing a visit planned for last November. The event will be attended by Stanford professor Paul Romer, who has proposed the idea of the controversial “charter cities” to the Honduran regime headed by Porfirio Lobo.

The conference will occur while Honduras is undergoing a deep political, social and economical crisis, especially in the area of human rights, including the existence of more than 150 political refugees moved to the Americas and Europe.

Chancellor, Mario Canahuati, announced that they have planned 149 investment projects which include an inter-oceanic railway, hydroelectric dams, forestry and agro-business projects, amounting more than US$ 14 billion according to the conference’s website.

1. "Charter Cities" run by slave labor--shit wages, no rights--for the benefit of the rich.
I can see it now. In fact, we're seeing it in the Diebolded states of Wisconsin, Michigan and Ohio. This is a common far rightwing/corporate program to destroy labor unions, destroy the "commons," privatize everything--schools, parks, water & electricity systems, telecommunications, transportation, health care--eliminate safety, food, environmental, labor and other regulations of a decent society--and return to the era of the "robber barons."

It's so surprise to see this ruinous program arise in the U.S. client state of Honduras, after a U.S.-supported rightwing coup d'etat. But it is doubly alarming that the death squad-connected, cocaine trafficking-connected, massive illegal domestic spying-connected, Bush Jr pal, Alvaro Uribe, is involved in it. Could the "message" be any clearer that labor union organizers will be murdered in the course of creating these "Charter Cities" in numbers exceeding the murders of labor leaders in Honduras, thus far, and approaching the numbers of murders in Colombia, where this shitbag ran the entire country as a criminal enterprise?

Lord, Lord, I fear for Honduras!
