If McCain would have done EXACTLY what Obama has done we would be pissed! |
|
I can't imagine this place defending McCain if he would have one and done the same thing as Obama has.
The War decisions, the wall street decisions, the private pharma deal, the patriot act renewal, defending wiretapping, etc.
We would be RIPPING McCain daily. And we would also not be happy about the way the money has been spent to boost the economy.
So why do so many here defend Obama for the same decisions.
I know Obama is not McCain but you cannot be happy with Obama doing things you would be pissed at Obama about.
At times us Dems are as biased as any GOP supporter....all logic thrown out the window!

to have anything to do with the stupidity posted on DU attacking Obama.
I don't like some of what Obama has done.
I question some of what he's done.
But I at least have the intellectually honest and integrity to say he has done a lot right and give him credit.
So you have zero credibility when you decide to equate the sum total Obama's record as POTUS so far with McCain. Maybe the fools on DU will agree with you. But that's about as far as it goes. The rest of us can see a much more complex view of reality.

The serial whiners here will not care for your post. ... Because they know you are correct.
Intellectually honest, constructive criticism of any pol is cool. Sadly, that's become more and more rare on DU nowadays.

3. exactly what I was going to say |
|
its the actions that are worthy of criticism, regardless of who does them. Its even worse, of course, that a democrat is doing them, especially one who used the catchphrase of hope and change.
HOwever, I knew back then that there was not a great deal of difference in policy viewpoint between him and Clinton, so while I am disappointed, I am not surprised.

He's saying that if a Republican came into office and was part of an administration that did the above things...we would ALL be pissed. But half of DU isn't because of the fact that it's not a Republican, but a Democrat. That's partisan and putting blinders on.

You do remember that, don't you?
The Pharma deal was a negotiated agreement that was meant to advance the health care reform agenda not to line the pockets of Big Pharma. Hey, legislating isn't pretty.

Obama campaigned on an exit from Iraq in 16 months ... and that he'd add troops and focus to Afghanistan.
Obama is doing both ... and I agreed with him ... so if McCain was doing it (which he was NEVER going to do) then yea, I'd be happy about it.

Everything Obama does is defended by enamored supporters as some elaborate political maneuver. Being that all mistakes Obama makes are explained away, he essentially becomes an infallible political leader, whose future actions must also be explained away so that he remains infallible. Once Obama becomes a chess master, people must religiously believe that these political moves fit some grand strategy that the common man cannot understand, and that such a strategy will benevolently serve them. Once someone affixes a belief and operates on faith alone, there is no talking sense to them

17. His war decisions are EXACTLY what he said he'd do. |
|
1) He said he'd get of out of Iraq, with the target of 16 months. He's on track for 16-19 months. December was the first month since the war started that we had ZERO combat deaths in Iraq.
2) As a candidate, he said he'd ADD at least 20k troops to Afghanistan. He also said we needed to increase our focus there. He's done EXACTLY that.
And one who is upset with him on these points was not paying attention.

Had McSame won and governed exactly like Obama, we would be praising him. At this point the base of his own party would no longer recognize him. Sure, he wouldn't be the perfect liberal, but what Obama has done is way, way to the left of the Republican Party.

Of course not. I'm just saying if he governed exactly like Obama and gave the same SOTU speech, I'd be pleasantly surprised on how he reversed most of his main positions. The Republican Party would drop him and he would NEVER win his own nomination.

Others just have knee-jerk reactions. Why would I possibly care if a Dem or Republican froze/cut spending on unnecessary programs or programs that weren't working? I wouldn't and I can't imagine why anyone, other than a blind ideologue, would either.

40. McCain wouldn't have made it past Year 1 with Palin around. |
|
you should've seen how worn down McCain looked and acted during the last month of the campaign. There was not a chance he could've kept up with the massively stressful 24/7/355 days on call that a regular presidency puts people through. Throw in Palin's delusion of grandeur and Todd in the role of Brutus as so forth.
we would be yelling at Palin for things 100 times worse than any mistake Obama has currently made.

42. The truth is we at least have a semblence of an economy to |
|
talk about. Even though my true belief is we should have let the super duper banks bail.....my gut says if it hadn't been done we would be in a true Depression.
The troops are being withdrawn from Iraq....
He promised that he would focus on Afghanastan and send more troops...he did not lie...
I will not defend the following 3 issues....so I will disagree with you that I am as crazy as a McCain/right supporter. the private pharma deal, the patriot act renewal, defending wiretapping, etc.
And if you want to talk about logic you listed several issues in which many DU folks like myself have complicated views and we are able to distinguish between marching lock step and criticizing him when it is necessary.
Oh by the way....if McCain were in office the first thing he would have done would have been to cut taxes for the top 1-5% and corporations. This bad economy we are seeing would be nothing compared to what it would be if that would have happened. Oh yea and the Iraq war in which we are drawing down would have been escalated.....and Afghanastan would be spiraling out of control.
