he didn't begrudge wealth and success. He didn't say that he didn't begrudge their bonuses.

8. Do you agree that WH is trying to cosy up to Wall Street? |

Does it concern you that this sends very mixed signals (at best) in a perilous political climate for Democrats?

10. Exactly. Are people deaf or just stupid? |

What is also worth noting is that both of these companies have repaid TARP money so it's really not the government's bsuiness to regulate their payroll or bonuses. They're public companies -- it's the shareholders responsibility to do that.
Also, they didn't get cash bonuses, they go stock that can not be cashed right away. This is not the same thing as the AIG bonuses.
I can't believe Paul Krugman had the vapors over this! On second thought, I guess can believe it.

15. Parsing the sentences won't help. |

The problem is the tone-deaf repetition of a talking point where it shouldn't have been used. He should have seen that this wasn't the place to put his usual "appeal to the republicans" catch phrase. It is the insensitivity that is the problem.
You can't take his words out of the context. The context was what he thought about the bonuses. To that inquiry he tossed in the usual catch phrase. Either it was calculated or stupid. It can't be neither.

7. So people continue to pretend he said what he didn't? |

As if they repeat the lie often enough, that makes it truth.
