Michigan Governor's Race: Bowman Getting In, Ilitch Out
Michigan Democrats have been scrambling since the party's first choice to run for governor -- Lt. Gov. John Cherry -- pulled the plug on his cash-poor campaign.

But over the past few days, the Democratic field has begun to take shape in the race to succeed term-limited Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm (D).

The latest:

Bob Bowman, a former state treasurer who for the past 10 years has been CEO of Major League Baseball's interactive media division, filed preliminary paperwork to launch a campaign, according to the Detroit Free Press and the Detroit News.

Bowman's name was in the papers a lot in the 1980s, but he's not a household name among Michigan voters, having been out of office for all of the 1990s and 2000s.
