Poll: 56 percent of S.C. approves of Obama
A new Gallup poll shows South Carolinians giving President Barack Obama a 56.1 percent approval rate - middle of the pack among the 50 states.

At nearly 71 percent, Hawaii, Obama's birth state, gave him the highest approval ratings for overall job performance for January through December of 2009.

The lowest approval ratings came from the South and West, with residents of Wyoming giving the lowest approval rating, at nearly 42 percent.

Obama's overall approval average was 57.6

2. Should be clear, this number is the average for all of 2009, not today.
The way the story is worded is kind of confusing.

8. Meaningless poll number - an average of the entire year
So any numbers are skewed by his "honeymoon" period.

9. Unfortunately, 56% of SC will likely vote against him in 2012

10. It depends on who the GOP runs.
I am not so sure many of the evangelicals here would vote for Romney, if he gets the nomination. They would vote third party or not at all. There are also still a fair number of relatively sane republicans around, mostly northern retiree transplants. Very few of them like Palin. If she gets the nomination, they will not vote for her, either. A lot of them also dislike Hucksterbee enough to stay home, too.

11. :psyduck:
There are some odd fucking approval ratings among the states.

Someone posted a Gallup poll a while ago showing him with a strong approval rating in ARKANSAS.

Think about that.

ARKANSAS.

13. That's false

Though it's not the OP's fault, as the newspaper made the mistake.

As the person who wrote commment #8 observed, that number is an average of Obama's approval from January through December, 2009 in South Carolina.

we are in February, 2010. We would only know what his approval is in South Carolina if we looked at polls conducted recently.
