Poll question: About polls taken here at DU... |
|
Edited on Sat Feb-20-10 08:13 PM by jenmito
I think they're pretty useless if you can just check off a choice without saying who you are. They lend themselves to posters just checking a certain box if they don't like the poster or want to mess with the results, etc. It would be more effective, IMO, if our nics were attached to our votes. Do you agree? :D

You want a Democratic forum to eliminate democratic balloting?
Good luck with that.

4. Why not? Most of us "know" each other's positions (or think we do) and |
|
we also can predict who will vote a certain way, so it would be "informative" to see who marked what. Some may check off something only to mess with the thread starter. There's no punishment here.

8. This has nothing to do with purity or loyalty. I just think posters should own up to their choices. |

12. Strange notion. Should we all put our names on the next ballots we cast in an election? |

9. I'm a poll fucker wither...or whatever it would be called. |
|
Ask the poor pollsters who called me during the election. I had them thinking I was Buddhist Nazi by the end of the 10 minutes. I can't help myself. I answer most polls truthfully, but sometimes I can't help but fuck with it (in direct proportion to the inanity of the question being asked). If I have to admit to it publicly I most certainly will, but then it's not really fucking with them, is it? ;)

The point behind an anonymous poll is that people feel free to give their honest opinion without the effects of peer pressure or fear of social reprisal for having an unpopular thought.
Removing anonymity would make polls less about what people think and more about what people think about other people.
No good would ever come of it, and clarity and honesty of opinion would be diluted.

I don't think you're going to find much agreement here.
And why is it you feel that the purity of Democratic Underground polls has to be preserved? Will something happen if someone's informal, nonbinding poll gets trolled by a bunch of angrypantses?

13. No, and it's a ridiculous idea. |
|
One would think the concept of secrecy in voting would not require an explanation for Democrats.

17. Not really needed. DU polls are a gimmick to spark conversation. |
|
The replies are usually more important than the votes.
