Gibbs Statement on the PO: Watch it for Yourself...
.... and then read into what he says whatever you've already made up your mind the President's position to be. :)

Approx the 13:30 min mark.

http://cspan.org/Watch/Media/2010/02/23/HP/A/29929/White+House+Briefing+with+Press+Secretary+Robert+Gibbs.aspx

Question (Chip Reid): "Supporters of the public option are making another push in preparation for Thursday's meeting to try and get it back onto the agenda. By NOT including it in the President's proposal, is the President saying (that) as far as he's concerned, it's dead?

Gibbs: We have seen obviously ... and I talked about this some yesterday ... though there are some that are supportive of this that there isn't enough political support, in a majority, to get this through. The President wanted to find ... took the Senate bill as the base and looks forward to discussing consensus ideas on Thursday.

Goes along with this theory, IMO....

The whole point all along has been to push Dems to stage a reconciliation vote on the public option after the decision is made to do reform as a whole via this route. This would only take place after the summit. ... There was never any reasonable chance Obama would take a public option to the summit.

4. ....
... ;)

I knew that's what we'd all do anyway.

It was such an important quote and I didn't like any of the spin I was reading in the articles about what he said.

Gibbs managed to say BOTH "Obama is a corporate shill" AND "Obama is a grand chess master" in the SAME sentence! lol He's a genius!

2. Wishful thinking.
P.O. is D.O A.

There are only a handful of progressive, forward thinking people in DC. And they ain't running this show.

7. I know, I'm like a broken record.
But I appreciate your good humor about it all, if that means anything.

:hi:

8. I have to keep reminding myself...
... no matter HOW aggravated I get at folks on this board .... they would NEVER dress up like "George Washington," glue some Lipton to their faces and march around town with misspelled signs. (And then go home and send hate faxes to Al Franken.)

It's a very comforting notion.

12. Well, there are a select few I wouldn't like to run into in a dark alley...
But you are most certainly not one of them.

10. They are dead scared of this not coming to a fast..
.. and succesful vote. Not sure the approach is good strategy. Bad bargaining point to put yourself in to take the controversial stuff out before you start talking.

11. It's not like there's going to be any ACTUAL compromise discussion going on with the GOP...
.... this is all just a show (on THAT the Republicans are correct) to gain some political capitol for the reconciliation push.

The only people the Dems are going to be negotiating with are ourselves.
