In my original letter to him, I I found it fascinating that he called for "bi-partisanship", but refused to accept it when offered.
The letter I received today was boilerplate GOP stink; abortion, people ned to be "responsible"...the usual hodge-podge fetid stew of GOP talking points. Anyway, I just sent him the following:
Dear Senator Johanns,
In response to your response to me, I'd like to clarify a few things if I may.
You mention abortion in your letter to me, I am fully in favor of a woman's right to choose whether she will carry a fetus to term, or if she decides to have an abortion, particularly if her life is in danger. I do not believe you, or anyone else has much to say about it; basically, you are not involved in either decision, nor should you, or anyone but the principles involved should be.
Second, and far more importantly, the Republicans have gone on what is essentially a dam building experiment that has damaged the nation as a whole. You party sir, has done everything it can to hold up virtually all legislation passing through the Senate. To be quite blunt, your party is holding the nation hostage for the sole purpose of trying to discredit the president. All of us out here in the real world know this. We see your leadership braying about not being included, but as soon as the offer to work in a bipartisan manner is extended, it is immediately slapped away.
Senator, people are dying in this state and across the country because a your party is blocking any substantial progress in creating a far better field than what we have now. Is this really what your party, and by extension, you really want. There are hundreds of billions available for war, but to help a child in need is somehow not "worth" this stuff your party is pushing?
Senator, I believe at heart you are a good man, but you have hitched yourself to a losing horse. The people of this nation are demanding that Health Care be be made available for all. I don't know who've you been listening to, but it is not the people of this nation.
I urge you to reconsider your stance. In the time it took me to read your letter and compose this response, people have died because of a lack of care. Many of these would have survived if the minority party in the Senate had moved closer to resolution and get things moving. We can spend money killing people, but we can't spend any saving people? That sir, is simply not rational thinking.
If Health Care Reform is not passed, it will not be the president's "Waterloo", it will be the destruction of a once great party; the Republicans will pay dearly for allowing citizens to die in this country...because they refused to act.
Signed,
*****
I am urging people to call, write, e-mail or tie a note to a rock and toss it into a Twon Hall meeting once again. We need to let these these people know we are on to their game, and they will pay in November.
Thank you,
Ras
