Boehner asks W.H. for invite for Stupak
House Minority Leader John Boehner on Wednesday asked President Obama to give Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) a last-minute invitation to Thursday’s health care summit.

In a letter, Boehner noted that the Stupak amendment, which bans federal funding for abortions, is not included in the president’s reform proposal or the Senate version of the health care bill. Yet CNN and Quinnipiac University surveys “consistently indicate that the Stupak amendment reflects the will of the American people,” he wrote.

The White House has told Republicans they can invite another lawmaker to the summit since the administration invited Sen. Ron Wyden, a White House official said. As for Boehner's request for Stupak, the official said, "If they want Stupak to come, they can bring him."

Boehner concluded in his letter: “Regrettably, millions of Americans are already deeply skeptical about the February 25 summit. They have noted with disappointment the decision by the White House to use the existing legislation as the starting point for the discussion – despite the fact that the current bills are opposed by a majority of the American people – rather than starting the discussion with a clean sheet of paper. They have noted with consternation the White House decision to exclude governors and state legislators representing states that will bear the heaviest burdens if the current legislation is enacted. Including Representative Stupak in the February 25 discussion, by contrast, would send a signal that the White House respects the views of a majority of Americans and a bipartisan majority of the House on the critical issue of life.”http://www.politico.com/politico44/perm/0210/gop_wants_stupak_389f79ba-eaa2-4865-97a8-bb35c7846607.html

I thought Boner thought it was all for show anyway? Why would he want Stupak to come?

1. Boner wants Stupak there so he can have "bipartisan" support
for restricting reproductive rights.

Obama should wipe his ass with this letter.

6. Is Stupak too stupid to ask for his own invitation?
Does he need the opposition to do it for him?

Boy....that Boner is nothing but a real giant asshole!

9. Regardless of anything, do we really know if Stupak asked Boehner
to ask the White House. I agree that Stupak is a tool,
but this isn't what would prove it.

and create infighting.

11. Does it matter, my friend?
The fact remains Stupak's policies are being manipulated by the GOP to drive a wedge into the President's bloc.

15. True......
And I think that Stupak's silence or lack thereof in reference
to needing a daddy to request his presence,
would signal to all of us what we need to know
in reference to how much of a tool he really is.

8. I hope Obama schools Stupak on how his amendment is NOT the Hyde amendment which he claims
it IS the same as. This will all be straightened out, Stupak and the Repubs. will look foolish, and this will HELP get the bill passed. Thanks, Boehner.

13. I hope the WH response, "Sorry, all full up." Each side got to choose their
invitees, and Stupak wasn't chosen. Deal with it Boner.

They'll add another chair and invite his miserable ass though. Oh well, if Obama can deal with all the repukes, one more ain't gonna hurt!

there are probably more surpises to come. Stupak is a republiCON and they want to turn this into another abortion fight.

I am so tired of them and their little games they should be prepared for Stupak since he tried this shit in the fall..

19. The guy represents a bunch of rednecks in Michigan
Stupak is, unfortunately, just pandering to his constituents. I think the President should invite him and then call him out on his antics and tell him to stop saying that the health care bill funds abortions when the fact is that that's already illegal under the Hyde Amendment.

24. The Hyde Amendment should be repealed anyway!
Sad day when Democrats defend anything from fat ass Henry Hyde.

My taxes go to subsidize those that give money to their stupid churches in the form of tax deductions, so if I have to pay to the idiots that believe in Jesus, why shouldn't they pay for abortion services to poor women?

22. Unrec'ing this, not because of the poster (Jennicut is cool), or the article. But because of Boner
:)

"Will of the American people?"

Really Boner? The same American people that are in the majority favoring keeping abortion legal?

23. "House Democrats are farther away from securing the votes to pass a government health care bill ..."
House Democrats are farther away from securing the votes to pass a government health care bill today than they have ever been. Fact.

SOMETHING is up .... are Boehner and Cantor et al about to shock us all by showing up with Stupak ON THEIR SIDE? Stupak and his Blue Dog buddies?

To those who got upset during the abortion funding broo ha ha last fall, you might want to take cover.

I'm afraid things are about to get UGLY.
