Obama bumper sticker fuels violent political road rage in Tennessee.
Obama bumper sticker fuels violent political road rage in Tennessee.

After picking up his 10-year old daughter from school yesterday afternoon, Nashville resident Mark Duren was driving home when he was suddenly and intentionally rammed from behind by Harry Weisiger. Enraged at the sight of Duren’s Obama bumper sticker, Weisiger gave Duren “the bird” and then hit him from behind, leading to a violent series of events. Nashville’s WKRN reports:

“He pointed at the back of my car,” Duren said, “the bumper, flipped me off, one finger salute.”

But it didn’t end there.

Duren told News 2 that Weisiger honked his horn at him for awhile, as Duren stopped at a stop sign.

Once he started driving again, down Blair Boulevard, towards his home, he said, “I looked in the rear view mirror again, and this same SUV was speeding, flying up behind me, bumped me.”

Duren said he applied his brake and the SUV smashed into the back of his car.

He then put his car in park to take care of the accident, but Weisiger started pushing the car using his SUV.

Duren said, “He pushed my car up towards the sidewalk, almost onto the sidewalk.”

Watch a video of the report:

Weisiger has been charged with felony reckless endangerment.

19. Our first duty as parents is to our children
and their safety. I try to not do anything which would bring the crazies into our lives.

We don't put any bumper stickers on our car, really never have for this reason. There is *always* someone who will disagree. We have had our tires slashed before during the Obama campaign (never knew who did it but I have my suspicions). There's nothing on our extremely common, silver minivan (which is nearly impossible to identify) which says where our kids go to school, what sports they play, their names, etc. No gun stickers, no peace signs, nothing but a very faded breast-cancer support cling which probably needs to come down too.

It's not that we're afraid, it's just that we're trying to be smart.

18. Just took mine off.
My father was a member of the Student Non-violent Coordinating Committee, did voter registration drives in the '60s and had been urging me to do so already because of all of this crazyness. I dont live in Nashville, but I DO live in TN.

This insanity wont last forever and I can get a new bumper sticker more easily than I can get a new car or a new me.

11. Wonder if Weisiger had any bumper stickers of his own? Hannity/Rush/Beck/Tea Party/etc.?
They all spell HATE!

Terrible and this is what it has come too. So many of us had tried to get something done about Beck et al but it just didn't happen. Shameful tactics with a 10-year-old girl in the car yet! Disgusting!

by Talk radio, FOX, and elected officials. Free speech be damned if it crosses the line into incendiary rhetoric.

38. Truer words never spoken
And lurking here two years I've seen a certain cadre of DUers regularly make fun of anyone who compares what is happening now in America to documented prior cases of identical conditions which led to actual horror in other countries. Compare RW violence of rhetoric and behavior to the rise of the similar brownshirts of Nazi Germany, some smug script kiddie will retort, "Godwin's Law". Compare it to the far more closely identical start of the Rwandan genocide, the same script kiddie or other /4/chan wannabe will poke fun to humiliate the comparer into helping (whom exactly?) raise DU's threshold for accepting increasingly more aggressive forms of domestic violence. Yet both the campaigns of hatred I cited began identically: with deliberate and state-enabled misuse of public media to promote violent rhetoric against an innocent nemesis until increasingly aggressive acts against that nemesis became both state-sanctioned and out of control.

So fuck Mike Godwin and fuck his little vanity law. I hereby vanity-invent Duck Law: If it quacks like a duck, walks like a duck, and is yellow like a duck, it's a goddamned duck. End of debate.

17. Fox Newz Incitement.
Just wait--it's going to get worse. If you can stand it, check out freeptardland sometime--they're all talking armed insurrection and civil war. They basically feel justified in encouraging people to kill liberals. While I doubt very many of them have the balls to actually do anything more violent than going upstairs to Mom's fridge for a Mountain Dew and a Ding-Dong, a few of them are sufficiently crazy to actually cross the line into violent action--and it only takes a few to get the ball rolling.

23. Road rage is so bad around here already.
If you piss someone off it's not uncommon to be followed/stalked for miles. We have bumper-tag accidents often due to this. Guns have been brandished or even used just over how somebody drives. It would be surprising to hear at all that cars will be used as weapons to chase down people because of a damn bumper stick and then to pull out a gun.

It's time to bring in the great equalizers, folks. There's no negotiations with someone at 70 mph who is trying to kill you over a sticker when you have children in the backseat.

They just don't freaking care!

a charge of attempted murder...number of counts depending on the number of passengers in the attacked vehicle.

Be difficult for the sucker to come up with bail for attempted murder.
