Who is heading up the organized effort to convince Americans the new health bill is good?
Edited on Tue Mar-30-10 06:05 AM by RBInMaine
Some new polls out show a majority of the public downing the health bill. Of course the right wing is out there with ads bigtime scaring seniors especially about "cutting medicare" (that's where most of the negative numbers come from), but now Democrats need to be in a MAJOR mode of dispelling the lies and educating the people on all of the benefits. I know it is early, and when people see that the sky isn't falling it will poll better. But the ReTHUGS are not going to let up on their lie campaign, so we need to bash them down with the truth.

**Can someone please direct me to the organizations heading up efforts to put out ads etc. telling people about all the good that the health bill does. Isn't AARP out there telling seniors it is a good thing? Now is the time to close ranks bigtime and smash down the right wing lie machine. One think everyone can do is write letters to the editor of your local paper, talk to friends and relatives, etc. Here are the talking points:

1) It covers 95% of the public.
2) Pre-existing condition denials are out.
3) Insurance pools will be formed.
4) $1.3 trillion deficit reduction over two decades.
5) New tax credits and subsidies.
6) Closes the prescription donut hole.
7) Creates millions of jobs by reducing insurance costs for employers.
8) Medicaid expansion for the working poor.
9) Can stay on parents plan until age 26.
10) Expansion of community health centers.

1. The President is touting the bill, but I agree, it's not enough. Perhaps there are

pamphlets/information sheets at nursing homes and senior residences that we don't know about........

I plan on working my ass off from Sept to Nov. for this President.

5. No one--I don't see any real concerted effort to keep our majorities.
I think the Dems want to operate in permanent minority status so they "have to" please their donors over their constituents.

6. Did you see how many unrec's you all ready have - It is beyond me why people do that.
Why don't they have the balls to say why they don't agree. I think a lot of people are against the clause that states everyone must have health insurance. There are a lot of young people out there who think they will never get ill. Hopefully they won't develop a chronic illness but it could happen. And they need to know that there is monetary help if they need it to get health care insurance and don't have the money.

Also anyone who doesn't get health insurance is putting their loved ones in a bad situation also. Our son couldn't get health insurance because of preexisting condition back in 2004 and we had to help him the best we could when he was diagnosed with MS. No one knows what the future holds so right now let's back this because we can build on this later BUT it is law now! It is what we have right now and to me this is a big step to getting the future health care that most of us really want.

After those who are against this understand what is in the bill I think it will be easier to get a better bill in the future, but until then all this bashing isn't going to do anyone any good. It is law! It is time to start to build on those Progressive Candidates that we want in the Congress to get us where we want to be!

Thanks for posting! We try don't we.

:hi:

12. Oh please, getting health insurance doesn't mean you can magically afford...
to get health care, assuming the insurance company is cooperative, there are quite a few people, on this board, who can't afford the copays and deductibles, yet we are told to suck it up, because it sure as hell isn't going to get any better.

15. At least you gave me your opinion in a civil manner. OK but do you know what the changes will mean?
Maybe they will be able to get the insurance without a high deductible and have help to do it. Let's hope and if not let's let our Representatives know about it! Fair?

8. Frankly, they don't give a shit if people have health care, they just want their team to look...
good by saying they insured 95% of Americans, doesn't mean those Americans can get health care, because honestly, to them, that doesn't matter.

10. It's a bad plan and I don't have to like it.
Obama sold us out IMHO. No single payer, no public option means we are just propping up the big insurance corps and we'll still get screwed.
