Chelsea Clinton Engaged
November 30, 2009

ABC News has learned that Chelsea Clinton is engaged to her longtime boyfriend Marc Mezvinsky, a spokesman for former President Clinton confirmed to ABC News.

Clinton, 29, is the only child of the former president and current Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. She and Mezvinsky -- the son of former Rep. Ed Mezvinsky, D-Iowa, and former Rep. Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinksy, D-Penn. -- became friends in Washington, DC, and closer friends when they both attended Stanford University.

The two sent out an email the morning of Friday November 27 saying: "We're sorry for the mass email but we wanted to wish everyone a belated Happy Thanksgiving! We also wanted to share that we are engaged! We didn't get married this past summer despite the stories to the contrary, but we are looking toward next summer and hope you all will be there to celebrate with us. Happy Holidays! Chelsea & Marc."

Clinton spokesman Matt McKenna said the couple became engaged before Thanksgiving. He noted that clearly all previous reporting by media outlets about Chelsea having been married over the Summer was obviously incorrect.

I'm thrilled for Chelsea, she's such a nice girl. Congratulations to the happy couple and the Clintons!!!

15. My problem is that we had "A Revolution" to partly get us away from *royalty.*
I don't understand nepotism and cronyism ... this smacks of both. I have nothing personally against Ms. C. Clinton, but I'll be damned if I will stand by and type nothing as you slobber all over her "image."

She's no better OR worse than any other young woman. By her birthright she has been ARTIFICIALLY ELEVATED.

I believe political nepotism and dynasty is just plain WRONG.

I've now had my say, feel free to revert fully to a "caste system" where political ROYALS rule our system.

What's old is new again?

This has nothing to do with nepotism. Your reaction to this bit of good news has more to do with your own issues.

I just checked CNN's Political Ticker, out of 71 messages maybe 5 were negative. Even the ones who professed to be Republicans wished the couple well. They at least understood that there's a time and place for everything.

Every time in politics when someone's son or daughter is getting married, it's always someone successful with a highly good job. For once I'd like to see someone getting married to a 35 year old waiter. With that, I wish them the best.

Again, I have nothing personally against Chelsea Clinton. However, she's had every damn advantage handed to her. Now, after she's worked as an executive in a Hedge Fund and daddy's large global organization, some "investment banker" from Goldman Sachs is going to sweep her off her feet. And oh, they're going to be active in POLITICS.

I hope Chelsea and her investor banker fiancee live happily in relative political obscurity. That's not malicious, but a common theme of those of us who don't cherish "celebrity" from our political elites.

Most people end up marrying those they meet through their daily dealings: school, work, hang out place, through friends, etc.

Chelsea and Marc have known each other since they were teenagers, both families have been friends for years.

BTW, that poster is a "she", not a "he".

only 35 year old waiters they ever cross paths with are the ones serving them in restaurants. I would never have expected Chelsea to marry anyone who wasn't rich and successful. I remember when Tricia Nixon was marrying wealthy Edward Finch Cox, the media commented that he was actually marrying down! LOL

21. Curious: What is the point of saying "engaged" if the marriage isnt for a more than a year?!
I know a lot of women enjoy doing this but i never understand the point of it. One brags about going to get married in a year (or even more). I'ts like me mass emailing everyone i know that i might be getting a return on my taxes a year from now -- sure it can be exciting for that person but 1) it's a little early to get excited -- things can change 2)see 1

24. Spoken like a man!! LOL!!
An engagement is a commitment made by two people. The announcement informs family and friends that the couple is planning to wed. It does take time to plan a formal wedding. It's a stressful time for the bride, although the groom tends to worry about the cost. The bride has to decide on the gown, the bridesmaids, their gowns, the color scheme, the invitations, the food, the wedding cake, etc. They both usually decide on the venue and the groom on the honeymoon location. Some grooms become very involved in the planning, but some guys couldn't care less and most of the logistics are left up to the bride.

Either way, the time from engagement to wedding is exciting and fun.

:D

Edited on Tue Dec-01-09 11:07 AM by blm
Bill then used his summer2004 booktour to VIGOROUSLY DEFEND the military decisions of Bush's that the Dem NOMINEE had been targeting for attack.

http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/06/19/clinton.iraq /

Did any Dem nominee in history have the last Dem president on air for three weeks straight, in high profile interviews, defending the opponent's military 'leadership' from the nominee's attacks?

Chelsea should get her congrats for her wedding plans without the battering here, but, please try being mindful that many here at DU are well aware of the truth about the Clintons and their manipulations of the Dem party and other Dem lawmakers.

A little more relevant than Chelsea Clinton's wedding as it relates to the presidency.

Kind of a nice try, though.

However, she won't have a need for those "designer gowns" as she's patrolling the streets of Kabul.

108. Obama worked for Hopkins & Sutter
As did his wife. You think Obama worked for free? And how about Timothy Geithner and Lawrence Summers and all the Wall Street bigwigs Obama associates himself with? I didn't see Obama turn down corporate money during the campaign. Who do you think you're kidding? The Obama's are poor? They have no investments? Obama turned all the royalties of his books over to charity? I don't think so. Obama was so dedicated to charity work that he gave it up for the power, prestige and money associated with a politican's life?

Mother Teresa maybe, but not politicans.

Chelsea works for a hedge fund? So what. At least she has a job and works. Would you rather she live off a trust fund?? At least when she was first daughter we saw a young woman with poise and class who didn't wind up drunk on a bar room floor like the bush twins.

I don't know what Chelsea Clinton ever did to you, but to me you sound like a jealous loser who probably makes minimum wage and hates the rich because you know you'll never be like them.

Just because a person makes money, doesn't mean they don't give back. They do in many ways. Too bad you are too stupid to know that. They support foundations, charities, causes that benefit so many people. Guess if people work on Wall Street you wouldn't want their votes or their money to support YOUR candidate. Not much.

And not for nothing but I watched Obama sign a bill that allowed Usury & Loan Sharking & no caps from the very banks, that took our taxpayer money interest free. And concealed weapons permitted in National Parks. Score 1 for the Banks & the NRA. Screw the consumers. And how about the elderly....SS benefits not increased, their payments to Medicare increased, with all their daily expenses increasing, making it even harder for them on a fixed income. Not very "charitable"

Must make you feel real big to attack a young woman because she doesn't live her life the way you want her to. And because of her mother, that awful, awful woman that Obama chose himself, to be his S0S.

Sorry but your glass house is shattered.

Odd that he has millions of dollars for all his "charity work"..his "rich rewards", pardon the pun, for never taking a dime from anyone his whole life.

Mother Teresa Obama

40 workers for one of Michelle's dresses, big extravagant bucks.

Nothing like the high life baby! And it's one your never going to enjoy!

120. "Obama loves hedge funds" Enjoy the article!
Obama loves hedge funds

"The big winner in the Obama administration’s financial regulatory reform package is the beaten-up hedge fund industry.

Hedge funds get a particularly “light touch” when it comes to government oversight in the Obama plan. Essentially, the administration is calling for a reinstatment of a Securities and Exchange Commisison rules that requires managers to register with the agency as investment advisors. The rule was overturned by the federal courts, but many large hedge funds remained registered with the SEC–even though they weren’t required to do so.

The registration requirement would give the SEC the authority to conduct periodic inspections and require hedge funds to report information on trading positions. But the information reported by the hedge fund would remain confidential and not shared with the general public.

In short, the registration requirement is no big deal and don’t expect much squawking from the hedge fund industry. Obama gave them a great a big kiss."

Pucker Up!

102. Thank you for the reminder.
There are a myriad problems out there, from the wars to the economy and health care. This was just a feel good post about a former first daughter's engagement, and a Democrat to boot. The only response needed was good wishes to the couple or simply staying away if it offended someone's sensibilities. Instead, you get so called Democrats spewing venom against this girl who has never done anything to anyone here.

It's no mystery that I have never been an Obama fan, but if one of his daughters was about to be married, I would wish her nothing but the best. The children are never responsible for the parents' career choices and actions. This board has really become extremely nasty and mean spirited.

104.  Ahhhh....the "Compassion " of Liberals
It's ok to post in this forum about Michelle's clothes, though that has nothing to do with the economy, the unemployment, the banks. the debt, and now a war. Nothing to do with politics. And it's ok to send birthday wishes to Obama's daughters, though that has nothing to do with politics, whatsoever. Yet it's fun to read about and it's a really nice gesture.

But God Forbid it's Hillary, the Secretary of State, a member of Obama's cabinet, whom he CHOSE himself. No, we can't wish her daughter good luck. So unbelievably ironic since Obama has chosen many of Bill Clinton's former staff, too. Obviously he doesn't hate them as much as some of you people do.

I don't think I've ever seen such vindictive, petty remarks. It's truly pathetic.

We are about to escalate in Afghanistan. I can only imagine what some of you will be saying years from now about Obama's daughters.

Will some of you clowns be holding them responsible for the dead and wounded thats will surely happen in Afghanistan? Guess so.

Chelsea, Malia, & Sasha are the children of politicans, they bare no responsibility for the actions of their parents.

Liberals are suppose to be so kind hearted, so concerned, so loving..what BS.

What a shame, no better than Free Republic..worse actually, since they never post this kind of crap about their own.

126. The so called "compassion" has always been bullcrap.
Same as their supposed support of women. I saw as much sexism and misogyny during the last 2 years from the left as from the right, and that also includes the vultures in the media.

This thread did not require any sort of compassion, it just needed some basic human decency. Some people here are obviously so full of hate that they can't even send good wishes to a young woman who hasn't harmed anybody. They are far worse than the Freepers, they at least would never post such vile things about the daughter of one of their own.

This board right now disgusts me, the sheer cruelty and plain meanness is sickening. I don't believe in attacking politicians' children, it's not fair.

Not that I can say that I blame you, but you're one of the good people here. I've enjoyed our "conversations". I hope that you take a break, but eventually return.

As far as the people that you mentioned, some seem to think that all wealthy people are evil. They must have forgotten the Roosevelts and Kennedys. Besides, the Clintons were the poorest couple to enter the WH in decades. They didn't even own a home and Bill was making only 35K after 12 years as governor. They also ignore that the Obamas are worth millions thanks to his books. So, what's the problem here?

Anyway, I hope that this is not farewell and I hope to see you around in the future.

Take care!!!
