President Obama has given me hope. Hope we can address and maybe solve the huge problems facing us. I grew up practicing hiding under my desk in school to protect me from a nuclear strike. (Yep, we were taught that would save us.) As I got older and watched the news, we were shown maps with red paint spreading over it to represent the red menace. Fear of nuclear weapons is ingrained in my psyche and I suspect many of my generation share the same experience of constantly hearing about the threat.
With the end of the Berlin wall and the end of the cold war, the major fear is about nuclear materials used by terrorist groups. This is not an issue I focused on much. I'm much more worried about global warming. However, this nuclear summit gives me hope. I never believed a US President would lead in this regard without a major tragedy proceeding it. I didn't think we were capable politically of addressing problems without some crisis pushing politicians to address the latest media issue. I was wrong.
Today, I feel hope.

After President Obama's speech today, I couldn't be more depressed.
I weep for my Country. We are in for one hell of a ride.
This is the end of the innocence.

5. So Bush wasn't----from your statement he kept us an ingenue. |
|
You're statement falls on a veiled version of the teabaggers stating he's the anti-Christ and he'll bring on the end of the world. Here, your statement is more like he'll bring on the end of America----wait, teabaggers say that too. It's like I'm trying to say you're a teabagger...but your language is no different.

To the dismay of some who wanted so badly to say "I told you so", till they could almost taste it, and then they bit on their tongue accidently instead.
They are in such pain, it's almost pathetic to witness. :)

6. I'm stunned by what he has accomplished |
|
Preventing the second great depression gets little notice but deserves major praise. Raising the miles per gallon requirements in cars, funding home energy projects, and encouraging green energy moves us forward to an carbon neutral society. The list goes on and on.
I know I get caught up in the issue of the day and my frustration at the lack of progress on many issues. I wanted more comprehensive health reform, an end to the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, and major reductions in greenhouse gases (etc, etc!!). But, there is progress forward on all most of these issues and many more.

12. I'm stunned that you, in a few words, |

said what those of us who support President Obama feel. Yes, there are issues we think he could move faster on/do better/do differently, but the bottom line is, he's getting things accomplished.
Thanks, cally. :fistbump:

9. Your generation is very lucky to be watching this play out... |

.... Reagan was making the first efforts at ending the Cold War by the time I was old enough to know what was going on (and he should get credit for that.)
But no matter who you are, it boggles the mind when you think that, soon, most of the former Soviet Union's stockpile of uranium will be in our possession. (thankfully)

13. As I wrote earlier today in another thread: |

I can't imagine anyone else doing half as well.
Barack obama is The Man, capitalism required, the right guy in the right position at the right time. We should be grateful to have him.
