Is it just me, or are the rest of you tired of hearing Republicans smirk and say things like "well, where's the change, huh"?
Damn it, change IS coming. They can try to stop it, but they will fail.
Unless the Republicans and a few bought-off Democrats are able to stop it, the biggest change from Obama's first year could be the beginning of universal access to decent, affordable health care for all Americans. It's something the rest of the developed world has had for decades -- in Germany, it's been about a century. It's time. If the rest of they can do it, so can we.
I am amazed that some people think it is "patriotic" to assert that Americans can't do something that the Europeans, Japanese and Australians can do.
Something else I find funny is this: The people most likely to deride Obama for failing to change everything wrong with America in a mere 11 months are the same people who never wanted change in the first place. You can't keep your foot on the brake and then criticize the car for not moving forward -- at least not honestly.
Real change takes time. We're moving in the right direction, in spite of all the efforts to move us backward.
Unless we let the GOPers make us cynical, we will keep going that way.

but he is an ordinary man who is taking a colossal task on. I don't think that there are many who could cope with this. The change will come but not with a magic wand.

13. How forced purchase of health insurance |
|
gives us access to "decent, affordable health care" is something I don't see.
We're still going to be paying more and getting less than people in any of the countries you mentioned and the insurance companies have been given a few years to continue upping their prices at will. It's a lot like the credit card "reform" they passed.
States will be allowed to opt out of the weak public option being offered but they won't be allowed to try and find their own solutions to the mess as that might hurt the insurance companies.

Change is already in the wind.
Instead of thousands of young Americans dying in Iraq they will now die in Afghanistan!
Instead of Savings and Loans being bailed out we will be bailing out Banks!
Instead of not having health care for everyone we will all be required to buy crappy health care policies!
Instead of having Industry shills in the FDA and Bureau of Land Management destroying our health and giving our land away to oil companies we will have Industry shills in the Fed , destroying our pensions and giving our homes away to banking companies!
Instead of "Don't ask Don't Tell" , we have "See no Evil, Speak No Evil, Hear no Evil"!
Change has come to America - you can smell it in the wind. You can smell it for miles and miles and ...
